When jockey Martin Stukely dies after a fall at Cheltenham, he accidentally embroils his friend Gerard Logan in a perilous search for a stolen videotape. Logan is a glassblower on the verge of widespread acclaim. Long accustomed to the frightful dangers inherent in molten glass and in maintaining a glassmaking furnace at never less than 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, Logan is suddenly faced with terrifying threats to his business, his courage, and his life.

Believing that the missing video holds the key to a priceless treasure, and wrongly convinced that Logan knows where to find it, criminal forces set out to press him for information he doesn't have. To survive, he realizes that he himself must sort out the truth. The final race to the tape throws more hazards in Logan's way than his dead jockey friend could ever have imagined.

Glass shatters. Logan doesn't...but it's a close-run thing.

Love Dick Francis, and have thoroughly enjoyed many Audible narrations of his works, particularly those done by Simon Prebble. Unfortunately Mr. Douglas read this story with all the emotion of one reading an in depth analysis of tax regulations. The story was still good enough for the listener to persevere, but barely.

overall a good dick Francis read, the narrator reads too fast and has a different accent. I prefer Simon prebble or Martin Jarvis as narrators.

I really enjoy Dick Francis novels and have liked the readers (especially Tony Britton), but this narrator doesn't know how to read punctuation and makes me want to sleep.

Good Story Ruined by Bad Read

The story is beautifully a Dick Francis fare however the performance edges too much into shades of reading a shopping list.

A good story but highlighting police disinterest except when officer is killed is not ideal. Narrator is good but sometimes forgets who he is portraying.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would get a reader who could at least pace the story so he doesn't sound surprised with the last few words of a sentence. He must not have even read the book before reading it aloud. I would get one of the readers who have done so well previously with Dick Francis's work.

As always the dick Francis story was wonderful. Entertaining and fast-paced! However the gentleman doing the reading had the wrong accent. Was either Scottish or Irish and it sounded more like a robot than a person.

Monotone delivery, sans intonation. Detracted from Dick Francis’ talent. If I hadn’t already read everything Dick Francis has written, I would have skipped this one.

I love dick Francis books and usually love the audiobooks but this narrator is really flat and I couldn't get into it. until now I didn't think it was possible to make a dick Francis book boring but this guy manages it. disappointed.
