Publisher's summary
Born the eldest son of a poor fisherman on the Isle of Lewis in the windswept northwest of Scotland, he grew up in a stone cottage with a thatched roof that didn’t blow away in the frequent gales only because it was held down by a net of hemp ropes weighted at the ends by stones. As a boy he taught himself to read and write by using the only book his parents owned, a Bible, which he then memorized. When he left home he told his mother not to worry over him saying, “I’ll be a professor at university” and in five years he was.
When Sherlock Holmes first met Professor Findley the older man scolded the great detective for not using distilled water in his chemical experiments, calling it “slipshod work.” Then he quoted one of Holmes’ earliest monographs, en toto, on bicycle treads and used it as proof for the existence of a higher power. Now an old man, the Oxford Don of whom Holmes once said, “he understands,” has vanished.
The only clue is a half-finished sentence on a chalk board. What has happened to the esteemed professor and can Sherlock Holmes find him? Once again, the game is afoot but this time Holmes and Watson don’t even know where to start.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. A weathered Cornish sailor has come to 221B Baker Street to see Sherlock Holmes. He shares a tale so haunting and otherworldly that it seems to offer only one possible explanation, a supernatural one. William Berryman of the coal ship Mariah went to sea as a boy and is now an old man, but in all his years he has never experienced anything like he did in The Great Storm of ’99 off the Cornish Coast. The storm drove his ship into the deadly “Manacles”, a line of savage rock outcroppings that had already claimed over a thousand souls. He tells Holmes and Watson that only nine of nineteen...

Ranulf Briquessart, Viscount Briquessart of Rutledge, was dead. This truth was as undeniable as the noonday sun. Tragically his death had been preceded by that of his wife, a beauty of Spanish nobility who was descended from the ancient Counts of Castile. Virtual Voice is not very good
It is hard to tell if the story was good or not because the virtual voice was just horrible. While it says every word correctly, the inflection and nuance of language still has a long way to go.
