Publisher's summary

FATHER OF LIES is the second in an exciting new series taken directly from newly discovered files of John H. Watson, M.D., friend, biographer and colleague of England's legendary detective, Sherlock Holmes.

When his brother Mycroft disappears, Sherlock Holmes is drawn into the most thrilling case of his career, one that puts his powers to the test as he goes up against the Father of Lies, the Lord of Evil himself. The stakes couldn't be higher as Holmes and Watson are sent by leaders all over the globe to battle for the very survival of mankind. An international chase will lead them from the serene rooms of London's Diogenes Club to a scenic, frozen wasteland in upper New York. The two friends will battle their way through caves and underground tunnels and even confront the magnificent Niagara Falls.

Listeners will love this eerie journey into the lair of the most diabolical villain ever. The immortal pair's friendship—indeed, their very lives—will be threatened by the Father of Lies, a cunning creature who would drain every ounce of their willpower and courage. Along the way they—and listeners—will meet memorable characters. Like Wiggins, former head of the Baker Street Irregulars, now all grown up! Everyone in this powerful narrative, heroes and villains and supernatural beings, will linger in listener's memory. Fans of Laurie R. King, Anthony Horowitz, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse, Sherry Thomas, William Ritter, and of course, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle will delight in these new adventures of the brilliant sleuth, his good friend, and his nemesis.

Great writing and incredible telling of another wonderful tale. Never fails to keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

Supernatural Sherlock Still Worth A Listen

While stepping out of bounds with some ancient supernatural villainy, "Father of Lies" still delivers the same intimate and inspiring friendships one expects with a Watson and Holmes adventure. An additional sidekick made me suspect at first, but the author did a fine job of making the character a welcomed extra. There are some fun timeline touches, an interesting obsession with guns for a Holmes story (I didn't mind-it worked), and a blast from the past strangely included, yet I'd argue that the reader's excellent performance, and author's ability to weave true to Conan Doyle dialogue and perspective together, make this an enjoyable listen.

When magical events meets poor writing

Granted this book takes the very well known storyline of Moriarty and his 'death' at the falls then weaves it into Dracula, of course there will be magic and all sorts of weird and unexplainable events. But the wandering plot, the 'crucial ' characters that are actually useless, the humanly impossible events that occur even before the "magic" times make this so hard to listen to. All characters plunging into a frozen river but no ill effects, main character gets his throat ravaged and blood dripping everywhere yet calmly walks out of the forrest, Holmes has his eyes swollen shut and blood dripping from his mouth during death scene but can function as normal in 2 sentances. Was there an editor for this book? Didn't anyone read this before it was sent for publication?

unnecessary terror

one of the things I enjoy holmes and watson stories is that they do not rely on extreme terror/horror to entertain. This was book was a total disappointment. I will not be /Ying this author again.
