About this listen

For Nyla Holmes, life is never easy. Two steps forward always end up turning into ten steps back.

As the coldest female barber in Elite Cutz, Nyla wants to own her own shop. She plans for years and has set her sights on the perfect building. Disappointment settles in once again when she finds out that her dream has to be put on hold. The one person Nyla believes will never hurt her does the unthinkable.

Aarick Landry knows what success looks and feels like. He’s the VP of the credit union and an active member of his fraternity alumnae chapter. Aarick also understands that life can sometimes be harder on some than others. His mother has struggled with addiction his entire life.

Nyla and Aarick are total opposites, but after a few chance encounters, they quickly discover one similarity—they need another.

Soft girl era

This is one of my favorite books by Charity Shane. I swear I swooned so hard throughout this book. Nyla deserved to be loved and be in her soft girl era/ life. My girl had a rough upbringing and had to be so strong meeting Aarick she was able to still be strong but let her guard down and truly be happy.

Narrators were awful

This was a great story but because the narrators were not good. It was hard getting through the story. the narrator's made the characters just sound unreal and fake. Again love the story but hated the narrators.

Good Story, Disappointing Narration

Y'all have got to stop using this woman for narrating our all black books! Her accents are frustratingly ridiculous but her obvious discomfort saying "brotha" or "sista," let alone "nigga," should make her an automatic no-go for your books. The story is a 5 but the narration drastically decreases the rating.
