Publisher's summary

A bipolar gangster, a naive young film director, and Batman. What could go wrong? Alex Ferrari is a first-time film director who just got hired to direct a $20 million feature film, the only problem is the film is about Jimmy, an egomaniacal gangster who wants the film to be about his life in the mob. From the backwater towns of Louisiana to the Hollywood Hills, Alex is taken on a crazy misadventure through the world of the mafia and Hollywood.

Huge movie stars, billion-dollar producers, studio heads and, of course, a few gangsters, populate this unbelievable journey down the rabbit hole of chasing your dream. Would you sell your soul to the devil to make your dream come true? By the way, did we mention that this story is based on true events?, no, seriously it is.

A Must Read For Filmmakers

Alex Ferrari’s “Shooting for the Mob”
is a must read for filmmakers at all experience levels. Alex’s incredible story illustrates that while it is important to master the craft of filmmaking, it’s just as important - or not more so - to learn the business and how NOT to be exploited. A truly compelling book that should be taught in film schools.

AN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE BOOK ABOUT THE HERO'S JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE (AND FILMMAKING TOO! :)

I wish i could give this book 1000 stars it was that good! Ive read a lot in my life, in fact I've always been joked with about all the books i have laying around... i just love it. This book i could literally not put down!!! i blew through it in about 2 days whenever i got some spare time. It is a book about filmmaking yes, but much much more than that! It is a book about LIFE ITSELF and the journey we all must take in the process of growing up into who we are as a mature human beings, knowing who we are and what we stand for. I feel it is an incredible achievement of honesty and courage by Mr Ferrari to reveal some of the deepest parts of himself with which he had to struggle as he ''came into his own.'' Its humbling to find someone with such humility and strength of character to admit things he struggled with along the way that many would choose not to share. Besides being a page turning story in its own right, this is a look into ones man's impressive character and his journey into finding himself that we all must take; Thank you Mr Alex for this wonderful view into the human soul.

Prelude to the Movie

Thank you for sharing this to all.
This book is for anyone following a dream, but specifically for those in the entertainment business. There are many who would sell their soul to get what they want. And, for others, what they get is not what they thought it would be.
Great characters, great lessons of life.
Both movies will hopefully be made.

Amazing Story and Flawless Performance

Alex really delivers the suspense and comedy of this tragic experience. Anyone who is interested in the filmmaking process should listen. This should be part of every film program’s curriculum.

Amazing chronicle of facing filmmaking challenges!

Thank you, Alex Ferrari, for this amazing true story you endured. I think many of us in filmmaking face a "Jimmy" in one way or another. I'm currently dealing with my own Jimmy, and your story gave me much needed perspective. Great book! Will share it with friends.

Inspiring, terrifying, depressing, and enlightening all at the same time

I absolutely loved this audio book and could not stop listening. It hit every emotional chord there is and I can’t fathom how Alex made it through this period of his life. This audio book was highly entertaining and I agree that it would make a great film. Thank you so much for sharing this story Alex. I’m sure it was very to difficult to relive this to write it and then perform it as an audio book. Everyone is sent angels when they most need them and yours was in the form of Boris and Frank. Keep doing what you do Alex!!!

An incredible film journey

I really enjoyed "Shooting for the Mob". Alex's story as an overconfident young filmmaker taking on the challenge of shooting an indie film, and making a deal with the devil in the process, had me entertained, educated and inspired. A must read for any creative entrepreneur (Filmtrepreneur)! This cautionary tale can serve as a source of inspiration while I sharing the pitfalls and life lessons of the film industry. A must read for any filmmaker!

Shooting for the Mob is entertaining tidbits

Well worth just hearing Alex do a mobster and eastern european voice for the audiobook.
the extra included interview with "Boris" was difficult to understand because of the "voice disguise" to protect his identity or embarrasement?
