The desert flower

At 17, fiery Juliet Cameron fell passionately in love and married the perfect companion for the adventurous life she wanted to lead. Lord Ross Carlisle is handsome, dashing, and as eager to explore the world as she is. But social constraints and fear of an all-consuming love that threatens to engulf her independent spirit send Juliet fleeing to the distant land where she was raised as a diplomat’s child.

Now, a dozen years later, a gentleman’s promise sends Lord Ross on a dangerous rescue mission to Central Asia - and to a shocking reunion with his long estranged wife. Warily, they join forces to cross the merciless desert to Bokhara, where Juliet’s army officer brother has been imprisoned.

The fierce attraction that drew them together so many years before has never died. But if they succumb to passion, can either of them survive if they cannot heal their broken marriage?

Exciting story and intrepid characters

I just finished the second (maybe third) listen of this book and as it sometimes does, the book grew on me. The story is complex and takes place in the Middle East. Siobham does an excellent job with the language, but the language adds to the complexity of the book. Not having an understanding...or a liking....for all things Middle Eastern. I struggled. Added to all that, I found the heroine, annoying and aggravating. Soo....that's why I waited until now to review. While the book is not one of my favorites, it's certainly very well-done. The story is rich in history and drama...both personal and otherwise. MJP and Siobhan did an amazing job in writing and telling the story. Siobhan Waring is definitely the best narrator for the books in this series. Thank you ladies for many hours of good entertainment.

Finally on audio!

It took a while for this book to be produced in audio format, but it was well worth the wait!

This is one of my lifetime favorite books (and one of my top favorites from this author), and Siobhan Waring does an amazing job bringing it to life. Not only does she narrate both main characters well (her command of male voices is impressive), she also handles the wide variety of accents and speech patterns called for.

Whenever a book I love comes out in audio, I'm almost hesitant to purchase it, because of fear it will ruin the impression of the book that is already cemented in my mind. Listening to this book on audio only made the experience richer for me.

Thank you, Putney and Waring, for a wonderful adventure and deeply romantic story that is worth revisiting again and again.
