About this listen

Addie Andrews is living a life interrupted. Tragedy sent her fleeing from Chicago to the shelter of an unexpected inheritance - her beloved aunt's somewhat dilapidated home in Eunice, Arkansas, population very tiny. There she reconnects with some of her most cherished childhood memories. If only they didn't make her feel so much!

People say nothing happens in small towns, but Addie quickly learns better. She's got an elderly next-door neighbor who perplexingly dances outside in his underwear, a house needing more work than she has money, a best friend whose son uncannily predicts the weather, and a local drug dealer holding a massive grudge against her.

Most surprising of all, she's got a dog. But not any dog: a bedraggled puppy she discovered abandoned, lost, and in desperate need of love. Kind of like Addie herself. She'd come to Eunice hoping to hide from the world, but soon she discovers that perhaps she's finding the way back - to living, laughing, and loving once more.

Home is Where Your Heart....And Dog...... Is

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend all audiobooks to my friends! This book was a fun story. The narrator, Joell, really brought to life the Southern- or should I say- Suthuhn- culture and essence with her voice. Sometimes I have tried to listen to a book where the narrator was not skilled in multiple voices, accents, or moods, and had to stop listening; however, I really felt the South in Joell's voice skills. The story was really great and kept me so engaged that at times I would sit in my car in my garage after I got home and listen to the end of a chapter- even if it meant sitting my my car in my garage for a good 10 minutes!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Let's see- I have a hard time choosing favorites, because all of the characters are great. I did enjoy Adelaide's crotchety old neighbor who "acted" crazy after his wife died. The way his story played out was very touching and funny at the same time.

Which character – as performed by Joell A. Jacob – was your favorite?

I think Joell really did justice to Jasper's character. His slow talkin' Suthun accent and tone made him sound like a man with a lot of deep feelings and thinking. I loved all of her characters too!

If you could take any character from Sit! Stay! Speak! out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I might take Wanda. She sounds like she might be a hoot to hang out with! She is a true friend and was the first one to really welcome Addy to the town and took her in like a sister.

Any additional comments?

This is really a great story about a girl and her dog and her man and her new life. It's also a nice romantic story done in good taste and not outrageous with the adult language.

It was okay

An annoying story with some love interest not sure. Abby's character was unrealistic, immature and annoying. She asked so many questions why not ?why aren't you telling me ? She was a stranger in town so why she felt entitled to have answers about everyone's business is beyond me. Then she puts herself in danger with known violent criminals because she was curious when she was told too stay away from them. Anyone from the south or a small town knows that a stranger coming into town asking questions or think they know better how people should live will get you chased out of town real fast. Just a silly story.
