Publisher's summary

Amanda Pearsall never wanted to put down roots. Six years ago, she put California in her rear-view mirror and set out to travel the world, one adventure at a time. Eighteen months ago she returned home for a family emergency, and she's still here, with no departure date in sight. The job she took to tide her over is stifling at best and she needs to get back out there. To throw caution to the wind and live her life on her terms.

Ben Chester, stoic captain of the San Francisco Strikers, lives and breathes hockey. From the tender age of 3 when his father strapped a pair of skates on Ben's feet, hockey has been his life. What could be more enjoyable than being out on the ice and winning with your team? His nickname might be Cheesy, but he has no time for jokes when he's playing the game he loves. And he has no time for distractions, especially from the media. He learned his lesson years ago to never trust anyone with a press pass, and when he discovers what Amanda does for a living, he wants nothing to do with her.

Ben knows they are all wrong for each other, no matter how good she feels in his arms. He likes skating in the lines. But Amanda can't even see them.

No Penalties Here

Another good story in this hockey series. While hockey is a big part of the setting, the focus is always on the character development and their relationship. The characters grab your heart and you’re not only cheering for the Strikers but also for the HEA. Well written, tight plot and little twists of fate make this love story absolutely charming.

Clever take on a trope with a steady pace

I have now read the available series on Audible and I loved it. Just the right blend of story, romance, spice and tension. I hope that she brings the whole 8 book series to Audible. The first 4 stories have substance and blend the right mix without the angst and avoid the over-the-top drama that is draining.

I like that prior main characters from the previous books (and future MC's) play a background part and provide color and context without overwhelming the focus of the main characters. It really ads to the read.

In each case the trope was thoughtfully considered and a slightly different pitch is introduced. I like the way that the characters remain true to their back-story and there is no need to introduce new or twisting turns to follow the story.

I really enjoyed Amanda’s travel back-story and the way that she dealt with her challenges. Ben was a bit twitchy with his hang-ups but the way the story plays out it makes sense. I really liked the way that Amanda and Ben wrote a their story.

The reader was really good and never tried to over-play the characters.
