About this listen
A determined survivor. A terrifying creature of shadow. A society of protectors that could bring her a found family or an early grave.
Arien Blair yearns to belong. Aged out of the foster system and living on the streets, the desperate eighteen-year-old works odd jobs just to put a roof over her head. But when she’s attacked by a hooded and faceless being, she’s stunned when a brooding warrior steps in and promptly declares he’s duty-bound to protect.
Sensing a connection she neither understands nor wants, the fiercely independent young woman tries to escape only to be captured by a trio of winged seraphs and spirited away for training. But the supposed sanctuary for humans carrying angelic blood proves to be a nest of ambitious vipers, and Arien’s beauty paired with unknown potential paints a massive target on her wingless back.
Short on trust and friends, can Arien find the home she craves before ruthless rivals clip her wings?
Sky Ice is the riveting first book in the Earthbounders dark fantasy romance series. If you like strong but wounded heroines, slow-burn relationships, and epic suspense, you’ll adore E. G. Sparks’s pulse-quickening tale.

Story
On the day of my twentieth birthday, a brutally handsome Shadow Fae darkens my doorway and whisks me away to an elite Fae academy. The problem is I'm not Fae, and I certainly don't have any magical powers. Despite this, I'm thrust into a realm where magic is as vital as breath and far more dangerous. Thrown into an academy teeming with powerful Fae, I must navigate the treacherous waters of magical education, summon my dormant powers, and battle merciless fellow students to prepare to face the rival Arcanum Citadel across the river.

Strong young heroine
This is book one of the Earthbounders series. It’s a dark fantasy YA with mild romance. Amazing world building that is detailed and imaginable. The characters are well developed and diverse. Twists and unexpected turns keep you listening. The MFC transforms with confidence and strength throughout the book. I’m anxious to hear what happens next as it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Incredible story that has something for everyone
This book was very well written and the narration was excellent. Having a good narrator is so important and I feel that this one nailed it! The thought that went into the creation of this world and the characters in it is evident through the bidi detail used by the author. There is truly something or someone, for everyone to love in this book. With the perfect amount of fantasy wrapped up in slow burn romance and topped off with a strong female character…I just loved this book. Listened to it twice and will definitely go back to this again before the next book comes out!

Thoroughly enjoyed.
First time reader/listener of the author and was in total awe of the world building. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this was an Angel type story. There's even Fae!! The FMCs leading men are.... something. Cole is my favorite, but Xavier is one of those brooding-dark-alphahole-type and I'm not sure if I can trust him. He seems bad bad, but keeping my fingers crossed he's just bad for a good cause. Arien is thrown into this new world, not believing she's truly one of them. Trust is something she can't afford when she's been a survivor her whole life. She's, basically, navigating her way through with the best she has. And by the end, she's determined to set things right by doing things her way. But she totally has people who are willing to help her. Once again, the trust issues. However, I'm looking forward to reading more because that was a worthy cliffhanger ending, and it's not over.

Interesting story, poor execution
The book had an interesting beginning & plausible storyline. However, the execution & sophomoric interactions were too on the nose. It feels like the story couldn't decide if it was YA / adult book. I really tried. Couldn't finish

Couldn’t finish
It started out with promise. Had feel of an early work so I’d expect better from later works maybe.
But couldn’t figure out where it was going or even get a feel for what the overall premise was, and couldn’t slog through any more scenes of insta-lust by whoever sees this girl then she gets rescued by next person who reacts weird. The self-absorbed part of teen angst I’d prefer to forget versus the still interesting growth found in “coming of age” stories.
