About this listen

Eldrinson Valdoria is a bard and leader on the planet Skyfall, a world with a culture considered primitive by the starflung civilization of the Imperialate. As adept with a sword as he is with a ballad, he is also an undiscovered telepath of great power.

Roca Skolia, a former dancer, is now the councilor for Foreign Affairs in the Imperialate's governing Assembly and heir to the Ruby Pharaoh of the Skolian Imperialate. Caught in a political struggle with her warlord son, she ends up stranded on Skyfall and missing a meeting of the Assembly to vote on humanity's first interstellar war. Though trapped, she finds herself drawn to Eldrinson, whose thoughts are as clear as the words he cannot write. As their attraction deepens into a love that the laws of both their peoples forbid, the flames of war ignite among the stars.

Featured Article: No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Drive—A James Bond Cars List

When people talk about the most memorable aspects of James Bond novels and movies, there are so many things to list—his famous quotes and drink preferences; beautiful women and dastardly villains (which are not always mutually exclusive); all those fun spy gadgets, like poisonous wrist darts, shoe daggers, and ring cameras. Certainly, there's no doubt that James Bond gets all the good stuff—but he's especially spoiled when it comes to cars.

Best one yet, finally, the back story.

Full circle, 360, and I am ready to restart the cycle again with Quantum Rose.

More to the story

This is how Roca and Eldri got together. I’ve enjoyed this entire series. SF and romance.

Never disappointed with Catherine Asaro's work!

There is so much rich history and so many back stories to the Skolian Empire saga, each installment makes it more real.

Good narration at last!

This one is well written and has a good mix of action and characters. The main characters are the parents of Saucony and Verg. The last two books in this series ( Moonshadow and Skyfall) are the only ones with adequate narration. In the others the narration interupped the story.

Final Notes... The h is anti-war which is fine with me, however, she let it color every situation. Her son is pro-war and a hot head which puts them at odds. It just didn't mesh well with me. I will read the next book in the series as some first books get mired in the world building.

HEA or HFN? HEA

Romance not SF? Not correctly categorized?

After the first few chapters it seems to be more concerned with the protagonists bust size and bad past relationships than larger issues. Not what you might expect with the blue "nebula award-winning author", but perhaps good for fans of romance? Not going to keep going to find out.
