About this listen
Now that I've retired my Scoutmaster badge I'm able to write what I would have appreciated reading when I first took on the job 30 years ago.
Since I started writing a blog at ScoutmasterCG.com 11 years ago, I've learned something of the power of storytelling.
This narrative loosely follows my own experiences, but the new Scoutmaster in the story begins knowing things that took me many years to understand. I share it with the hope you'll find it useful, and inspire you to discover something more about the spirit of your work as a Scouter.

Given the prominence of scouting culture in the United States, many assume that the movement is rooted in North America. On the contrary, the movement was initiated in and spread forth from the United Kingdom, more specifically in England. It was the brainchild of the 1st Baron Baden-Powell, a beloved and decorated war veteran armed with not only Martini-Henry rifles and Lee-Enfield carbines but a vision that would one day be espoused by every nation on earth except Andorra, China, Cuba, North Korea, and Laos.

Story
In this intriguing business novel, which illustrates state-of-the-art economic theory, Alex Rogo is a UniCo plant manager whose factory and marriage are failing. To revitalize the plant, he follows piecemeal advice from an elusive former college professor who teaches, for example, that reduction in the efficiency of some plant operations may make the entire operation more productive. Alex's attempts to find the path to profitability and to engage his employees in the struggle involve the listener; and thankfully the authors' economic models.

Every scout leader and troop committee member should listen to this
This is what scouting is all about--growing boys and girls in leadership and character, helping parents and adult leaders to be mentors and guides rather than controlling instructors fearing failure. Loved this straightforward approach to telling it like it is and walking through a real-life example of shifting the focus from the adults to the scouts.

Great book for scoutmasters
This is such a great book. I have been of fan of Clark Greene’s podcast for a while. I finally bought the book because I was struggling with our troop. The book answers a lot of the questions o have had for a long time with running the troop. I can’t wait to put these skills into practice.

Good info on Scouting
Very good info on understanding the Scouting "methods " better. I'd highly recommend any Scoutmasters, Assistants, Committee Members, and even parents of Scouts reading to get a better understanding of Boy Led Scouting and how it helps them grow into better men, employees, citizens, leaders when it clicks. It won't happen their first year it's a process. I've been involved with Scouts since the 1980s when I was in Scouts and this is my second time through. I wish I knew some of this years ago.

I am currently a den leader for my Webelows pack but soon my son will be crossing over into scouting and this book definitely got me excited about his new Journey. I myself I'm trying to become a better leader by going to Wood badge. I want to be the best leader for not only my son but the Scouts in our troop. I have a feeling that I will be ree listening to this book many times in my scouting career.
