About this listen

A woman must learn to take life by the throat after a night out leads to irrevocable changes in this juicy, thrilling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep.

Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesn’t need a reminder she’s getting older, or that she’s feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getaway—not with him, but with Sloane’s longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues she’d rather not confront, like her husband’s repeated infidelity.

But when they arrive at their rental cottage, it becomes clear Naomi has something else in mind. She wants Sloane to stop letting things happen to her, for Sloane to really live. So Naomi orchestrates a wild night out with a group of mysterious strangers, only for it to take a horrifying turn that changes Sloane’s and Naomi’s lives literally forever. The friends are forced to come to terms with some pretty eternal consequences in this bloody, seductive novel about how it’s never too late to find satisfaction, even though it might taste different than expected.

"As beautiful as it is horrific, So Thirsty is a potent ode to love in its many forms. Rachel Harrison weaves a dark and gruesome tale of true friendship’s ability to transcend both death and undeath."—Chuck Tingle, USA Today bestselling author of Camp Damascus

“The addictive latest from Harrison is by turns gory, rage-inducing, eerie, melancholy, and hopeful… a smart, scary, and occasionally sexy page-turner.”—Publishers Weekly

“With a realistic protagonist who faces choices that are sometimes scarier than monsters, this book will have readers sinking their teeth in.”—Library Journal (starred review)

I enjoyed the friendship between the two main characters.

Very different book than I normally listen to.

Thirst is satisfied in multiple ways. The sub-storyline is bizarre but meaningful to the differences in their relationships.

Narration is not the right match

I think I would have waited for a library copy if I had heard a sample before preordering. There’s something about Kristen Sieh’s narration of “Such Sharp Teeth” that made me feel that she should always narrate Rachel Harrison books. Sieh adds a mesmerizing cool girl vibe that keeps me spellbound. This will not be one of my listens that stays in rotation when I want to be charmed and compelled.

Weak Ending

I was excited to see this was a vampire book. I have been in the mood for one but I have to say the plot was very one dimensional and then there was the end. I was left wondering if the author was told her deadline was up. It was an abrupt ending where everyone was okay with things. Did you have a page limit?

Sort of thirst quenching

I couldn't wait to read this book. it was interesting and nothing like I've read. It was some good dark humor a lot of the time. Sloane's life was depressing so this seemed a better alternative. But I wasn't crazy about her. I think it was the dialog in her head. If it had been written from all the perspectives I think I would like it better. Her friend was fun but annoying. it all seemed so real. The friends they meet were sort of stereotypical, which added to the humor. I loved them, especially Henry. I really wasn't crazy aboabout the ending. It sort of leaves you to decide a lot. But everyone seemed happy. I think I wish the romance would've been more at the end.

The narration was good. I wasn't crazy about Sloane's voice. it's like she mumbled and whispered so I had to turn the volume wide open. The male accents were to die for and so dreamy. I can't get over how they are all the same narrator.

Fun story, humorous dialogue

I liked the growth of the main character and the story of friendship. The love interest was charming.
I did want less tension between the friends and more of a storyline with the love interest.

Characters that feel real

I liked the story, and the performance really made it pop, buuuuut I hated the main character almost the entire time. She's so whiny and miserable, it just annoyed the hell out of me. I think that was on purpose though. Without spoilers, she isn't insufferable the whole time. That being said, the characters made you actually care about what happens to them. I also liked that there was romance, but it wasn't the center of the story. Overall, worth a read and I will listen to other books by this author.

Rachel Harrison does it again & the narrator nailed the characters!

There are so many positives about this book. The only criticism I have is it was a little bit of a slow build up, but once it gets going you’re 100% invested. After the “morning after scene”, it’s constant action. There were several chapters I was stressed out in a good way. I love how another review specifically called out that this is like an adult twilight with a girls girl protagonist, couldn’t agree more. The real rawness of their friendship really added that little something special. I listened to the epilogue twice, just had to let the ending marinate.
