About this listen
Sofie's a young Greek American woman living in Queens. If you'd asked her a few months ago what she'd be doing now, she'd have replied, "I'm going to be married to a wonderful guy and working at my father's, or maybe my grandfather's, Greek restaurant."
That was before Sofie caught the groom in a compromising position with her maid of honor just before the wedding. Before she punched the priest who tried to get her to marry the cad anyway. Before she chucked her engagement ring into the garbage disposal. Before she became a junior detective for her uncle's detective agency.
Now Sofie's searching for a runaway wife possibly wanted by the FBI and for a vicious neighborhood mutt. And she's got the hots for Jake Porter, an Australian mystery man that Sofie suspects is either a bounty hunter or a federal agent.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Don't expect too much
A fun story with a times a little too much going on to make this a great listen. I enjoy the main character for the most part. I didn't enjoy the meaning of life and self reflection bits at the end. That kind of ruined the whole goofy story for me. The whole story had kind of Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich) feeling but not nearly as well written.

Great Book, Great Narrator
Buy this book!!! And then, get any other book narrated by Anna Fields. She is one of the best narrators on Audible.com. She conveys the text in a way that enhances comprehension and doesn't get in the way--a true artist of narration. I'm sure this book by itself is great, but with Ms. Fields narrating, I couldn't stop listening. Thank you, Audible.com, and thank you Ms. Fields.

A Greek Stephanie Plum??
This book is blatantly similar to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum and the influence is very noticeable throughout. At some points the characters virtually mirror Evanovich's characters are thus quite predictable. Although this book lacks the laugh-out-loud humor and character depth found in the Plum series, it is nonetheless entertaining and a nice, light read. I hope the author allows the characters to become more unique in future books.

Light entertainment
I didn't read any of the reviews before I bought the book so I hadn't realized there would be similarites to other books ("Greek Wedding", "Plum books"). Still, it was an enjoyable listen. Anna Fields has a great voice for Sofie and while she convinced me with her Greek accent she wasn't quite so convincing with her male voices. Old males were fine, it's the younger ones which were less effective. I agree that the plot was a bit erratic. What happened to Grandpa's medal, actually, I'm not even sure where or when Grandpa's medal was introduced. What happened to the diamond from Grandma's ring? And the "dog from hell" did a strange turn at the end. But it passed the time away during boring chores and car rides and Sofie made me smile.

Amusing, a la Big Fat Greek Wedding
This book kept me entertained. It isn't going to be marked as a "Great Work of Fiction", but it passed some hours enjoyably. The narrator was interesting - there were a few voices that were pretty remarkable. One of Sofie's grandfathers sounded like a completely different narrator - and very male! But then the narrator also did some accents horribly - particularly the secretary at the office. Luckily, she is a small character, so you don't have to listen to it much!

Kind of boring
I kept waiting for this book to take off. Carrington's writing was compared to Grafton and Evanovich but I think that is being a little kind. Of the 2, I would say more Grafton than Evanovich. The sexual chemistry between Sophie and her love interst was lame. The story line is tired: Greek girl; botched marriage; instead of working in family restaurant goes in different direction. I couldn't count the number of times she referenced her almost-marriage. I don't know if it is the first in the series. If it is, I might give her a second chance but if your are looking for a fun story with interesting characters, this is a little disapointing.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding pulls in Ms. Plum
I too found that this author mimics the Plum novels, even giving them a shout out during her novel. She also added a healthy dose of Greek family life a la My big fat greek wedding. The core mystery was a bit thin and maybe I zoned out and missed it (not one you feel compelled to listen to carefully) but whatever happened to Grandpas war medal? She got sidetracked and never finished that story line, maybe it will be in the next book?
Anyway, it's a nice light listen, but if you haven't read the Plum series, I suggest you start there instead.

A Total Knock-off
I couldn't finish this book because it is such a complete knock-off of the Stephanie Plum books AND because it is also a complete knock-off of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There is nothing original about this book and it was a huge disappointment. I really liked the narrator, Anna Fields, in Match Me If You Can but not even Anna can bail out this bad writing.
