About this listen

Don't miss the exclusive content in this thrilling adaptation of Solo: A Star Wars Story, with scenes from alternate versions of the script including Han Solo's time in the Imperial Navy, Qi'ra's past, the beginnings of the rebellion, and more!

Though Han Solo has thrilled Star Wars fans for decades, the notorious wisecracking scoundrel was chasing adventure and dodging trouble long before he walked into the cantina at Mos Eisley spaceport.

Young Han dreams of someday soaring into space at the helm of his own starship and leaving his home, the gritty industrial planet Corellia, far behind. But as long as he's trapped in a life of poverty and crime - and under the thumb of the sinister Lady Proxima and her brutal street gang - reaching the distant stars seems impossible. When Han tries to escape with his girlfriend and partner-in-crime, Qi'ra, he makes it out - but she doesn't. Desperate for a way to find his own offworld vessel and free her, Han enlists in the Imperial Navy - the last place for a rebellious loner who doesn't play well with others.

When the Empire clips his wings, Han goes rogue and plunges into the shady world of smugglers, gamblers, and con artists. There he meets the charming and cunning high roller Lando Calrissian, makes an unlikely friend in a cantankerous Wookiee called Chewbacca, and first lays eyes on the Millennium Falcon. To snag his piece of the outlaw pie, Han joins a crew of pirates to pull off a risky heist. The stakes are high, the danger is great, and the odds are slim. But never tell Han Solo the odds.

Praise for Solo: A Star Wars Story:

"Mur Lafferty has given us the best adaptation of a Star Wars film yet." (Star Wars News Net)

"If you liked the movie but were left wanting more, this novel has exactly what you need." (CNET)

"A fun adventure tale within the larger Star Wars franchise that goes beyond the run-of-the-mill novelization treatment to explore a new bit of the world that we haven't yet seen." (The Verge)

Featured Article: The Definitive Guide to the Canonical Star Wars Timeline

The Star Wars timeline is complicated. With a recently reestablished canon, a tendency toward nonlinear storytelling, and an ongoing creative surge of new films, television series, books, and comics expanding the already massive universe, it can be incredibly difficult for even the most dedicated among us to keep the Star Wars timeline straight. This unofficial timeline explainer offers a brief illumination of each period and the stories set within.

really loved the voice over actors abilities.

I thoroughly enjoy the voice actors abilities on this one. I think the way he did Woody harrelson's character was spot-on and almost sounded exactly like him. sound effects music addition to the movie that gives you more story more background was great. I highly recommend this book

Excellent, just like the movie

One of the best StarWars books outside of the Thrawn series. Definitely added to an already great origin story. The epilogue provides a great tie-in to Catalyst and Rogue One....make sure you keep listening after the movie ending.

Best of the SW movie adaptations?

Adds some really great scenes to the movie, and you really get into the heads of the characters, expanding on this already excellent Star Wars film. Out of all the SW movie adaptations, this is probably the one I have enjoyed the most - I did not expect that.

Loved Solo but was hoping for Harrison Ford

I loved Solo the movie and liked getting more of the story. My only disappointment was with Marc Thompson. He did a really good job like he always does and was another reason I wanted to listen to this. I was expecting him to do his awesome Harrison Ford voice for Han which would have made it perfect. Not sure why he didn't read it that way.

So much extra information

Way better than the movie. Very well-written. And of course perfectly performed. Hope more stories like this emerge.

Solo Review

Great book that adds depth to the movie. It had a lot of helpful details that filled in the gaps of incomplete character backstories. Epilogue is very interesting and is a great bonus. The narrator also did a great job in getting you into the story and the action. Also, the book really adds a powerful message regarding the lives of these characters. In addition, it was really interesting to see how one of the protagonists was molded by their personal struggles to survive and made them become what they hated in the past; while the other, one of the most beloved characters in Star Wars history, is seen being true to his heart, although not perfect and perhaps not taking appropriate decisions. Really enjoyed. If you are a Star Wars fan this is a definite must read/hear.

Blaring Louds w/Faint Whispers

The sound effects in this audiobook are very loud compared to the quiet reading of the narrator. Dialogue is also, often loud compared to the regular reading. This contrast makes for a painfully loud experience if you want to hear anything between dialogue or sound effects. So you turn the volume up to hear the narration of a battle scene, but then your ears are bleeding seconds later when Han yells to Lando in the heat of battle. You can turn it down, of course, but then you miss any narration in between the characters' dialogue. It's kind of like watching a quiet, suspenseful scene on TV right before it cuts to a loud commercial. Definitely not for me.
