About this listen

A better man would’ve walked away by now - but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised I’d keep enough distance.

If I closed my eyes, I could still see her - all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would. Lake was still everything I wanted, and nothing I should ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after.

But the only way to love her was to let her shine - even if it would be for someone else.

Book two in a completed USA Today bestselling forbidden love saga.

if Loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right

I was initially hesitant to listening to this book because I'm not a fan of creepy Lolita type of books. Fortunately, there was so many 5 star reviews that helped me understand it really was not that type of book. There is no underage sex in this book. Yet, it. is a forbidden love story. This series is more of a coming of age and sisterly rivalry that goes too far.

In Book two, Lake and Manning have not have contact in four years due to Mannings marriage to Tiffany, Lake moving to New York and Manning's parole contraints. When Manning's legal problems are behind him....all bets are off and he goes to New York to check up on Lake. and for as much as his intentions start out almost brotherly, well old feeling for Lake resurface.

The first book was more like a drama, but this book explodes with love and forbidden sexual desire that makes Lake and Manning forget any moral responsibility towards others. This author's gifted writing, sucked me in with her beautiful words and intense scenes that made it extremely difficult for me stop the audio. I blew through all three books in two days. These books are emotional and intense that make it difficult to forget Lake, Manning and all the characters involved with this tearful story.

Additionally, this audio book has two of the best narrators in the industry. 5 star story and nnarrator's. All three books are worth the purchase.

Another Night of Sleep... gone.

I love this series. This book is a bit hard to take... definitely need to replenish the fluids after all these tears! But worth all the feels. It’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m moving onto book 3!

Totally messed me up

The second installment of this love triangle made stars fall from the sky in agony. In true Jessica Hawkins fashion, she gutted me, ripped out my insides, smashed my heart, and made my eyes run out of moisture. Omg! Why?!? I am truly overwhelmed by the end of this book and can’t wait for the third installment to be available on audio. I can truly say that the audio version prolonged my agony, but the narrators did such a fabulous job bringing this story to life that I can’t help but finish it out in audio. Fingers crossed for true love winning in the end.

Loved & Hated this book-A must read series

Just like book one, I had a hard time putting it down. At times, I was so angry and heartbroken by what Lake was having to go through. I understood and could feel her pain. I cried with her through most of this story remembering those same feelings for myself.

Watching these characters grow up was surreal and painful at times. Knowing what it was like to give up on something that you truly felt was your world. Jessica Hawkins is a wonderful story teller bringing out the Passion and emotions that people can relate to. Many times in this book I wanted to turn it off throw it and walk away all at the same time of wanting to finish their story. The emotional rollercoaster at times was hard to bare.

In book 2, Lake and Manning continue to struggle with what is right and wrong and make choices that can hurt the other. Again I could not wait to start book 3 and had to go back and write this review.

Angsty, messy journey worth the read!

Somebody Else’s Sky is book in the Something in the Way series. This is a super angsty series following Lake and Manning over 4 books. They met in the first book when she was 16 and he was 23, and while Lake and Manning met first, he started dating her older sister instead. In this second book we follow more of their messy, agony filled journey and again, they aren’t together by the end of this book. I’m currently rereading this series and the whole journey of the series is what I’m here for. So like, I enjoy the ride and emotions of it all! 😅 I originally gave this book 5 stars but bumped it to 4 this reread.

This book picks up 1 year after the events of the first book. So it’s 1994 and Manning has been in prison for 1 year. Tiffany, Lake’s sister, has been visiting Manning in prison twice a month since he plead guilty to a crime he didn’t commit. He won’t allow Lake to visit him and doesn’t even read the letters she’s been writing him. When Manning finally is released from prison after 17 months in, Lake is now 17 and about to graduate highschool and turn 18. He doesn’t have anywhere to go after his release and ends up doing what’s easy, moving in with Tiffany in her new apartment. Manning ends up getting into carpentry and is just kind of going with the flow, being in a relationship with Tiffany who tells him she loves her, but still thinking of Lake and trying to stay away from her while also super pulled to being in her life.

We get some angst between Lake and Manning when he picks her up on her prom night, she sees his new tattoo of the Summer Triangle constellation (that he told her about in book 1), and they end up sharing an almost-moment in the kitchen late at night before Tiffany wakes up. Manning learns some horrible things about his father that he did in the past and that weighs heavily on his mind in this book and is one of the reasons he tries to put distance between himself and Lake. Around the time Lake turns 18, Tiffany starts talking about marriage. Manning feels like he brings good to Tiffany’s life, while he’d only bring bad to Lake’s. While celebrating Lake’s highschool graduation and acceptance into their father’s college alma mater, Tiffany blurts out that her and Manning are soon-to-be engaged! Lake confronts Manning and lays it all out, she tells him she loves him and asks him to pick her. He brings a sad dose of reality to her dreams instead, tells her that her father is working to wipe his record clean, giving him a job, and asks what she and him would even do right now anyways. She has her whole future ahead and he wants her to have the world and knows he can’t give her that. The prologue and the ending of the book both start and end with a wedding…

Is this a good hurt or bad?

I want to quit this story so much but I'm committed to hearing it out. the characters make me so mad yet I can't stop listening because I need to know how it ends. I don't want to shed another tear that I know is inevitable for this triangle. On to book three.

Beautiful!

Love, romance, heartbreak, angst, this book has it all! It will make you shout out loud to the characters, and cause a feeling of emptiness in your heart when it ends! Jessica Hawkins, your writing is amazing and as all your series do, this book leaves the listener yearning for the next book!
