Seine hebräischen Vornamen waren Binyamin Ze'ev. Er schrieb 1896 anlässlich antisemitischer Tendenzen in Paris sein Buch Der Judenstaat, das wesentlich zur Gründung des modernen Staates Israel im Jahr 1948 beitrug.
