About this listen

What would happen if a shy introvert lived like a gregarious extrovert for one year? If she knowingly and willingly put herself in perilous social situations that she’d normally avoid at all costs? Writer Jessica Pan intends to find out. With the help of various extrovert mentors, Jessica sets up a series of personal challenges (talk to strangers, perform stand-up comedy, host a dinner party, travel alone, make friends on the road, and much, much worse) to explore whether living like an extrovert can teach her lessons that might improve the quality of her life. Chronicling the author’s hilarious and painful year of misadventures, this book explores what happens when one introvert fights her natural tendencies, takes the plunge, and tries (and sometimes fails) to be a little bit braver.

Inspiring, funny

This book is well-written, inspiring and very funny. Jessica is real, honest, vulnerable. I’d already been doing scary things to face my fears, and Jessica’s story makes me want to be more brave in this endeavor.

LOVED IT!!

As an introvert, I’m absolutely obsessed with this. The comedy and the truth that this author writes and speaks with, spoke to my soul. From me actually being on BFF for two years now and having those same thoughts, to urging myself to talk to strangers in the streets. The book is full of courage and inspired me to try new things and get out of my own introverted way. Thank you for this book!

Holy Hell this is one of my favorite books EVER! 🥹

As an introvert who also sometimes delights in social activities but is often times too afraid to put myself out there… this was like honey on my cracked heart. 😭💛 The way Jess writes makes you feel like you are right there with her… LOVE her writing style!!! 11/10, highly recommend!!!

So fun but so deep at the same time

As a shy introvert myself, I felt like I had written parts of this book. Jessica’s experiences and grit inspired me to search within me and work on letting go of the fears that have many times stopped me from living. I highly recommend this book, especially for extroverts who want insight into the introvert world.

Author’s courage.

This author put herself on the line. I’m also impressed with her husband, who obviously had to put up with the absence of his wife for the year that it took to complete the journey.

The connection between being a introvert and the basic need for meaningful relationships

Really great funny book! I could relate so much to the author about the need for friendship and a social life, even as an introvert. It provided valuable insights into my own friendships and highlighted how introverts can feel lonely, even when we prefer our own company. Plus, it encourages me to step out, meet new people, and embrace new experiences!

Funny, charming book

Loved the humor and emotional warmth of this book. The author’s narration was wonderful and took me along on her many adventures through a year of stepping outside of her introvert-focused comfort zone. From talking to strangers to stand up comedy, she pushes herself to try new things and make new friends.

An introvert's well narrated extroversion challenge

Feeling unfulfilled, an introvert's journey practicing the seemingly preternatural social skills of extroverts in order to challenge herself to live like an extrovert for a year in order to grow her social circle. Enjoyable listen, articulated an introvert's feelings pretty well. I related very much.
