About this listen

Katsuk, a militant Native American student, has kidnapped 13-year-old David Marshall - the son of the US undersecretary of state. He and his young hostage flee into the deepest wilds of the Pacific Northwest, where they must work together to survive as teams of hunters try to track them. Even as he struggles to escape, David begins to feel a certain amount of respect for his captor. What the boy does not know, however, is that he has been chosen as an innocent from the white world for an ancient sacrifice of vengeance. And Katsuk may be divinely inspired - or simply insane.

This tale of vengeance and sacrifice touches upon many Native American myths even as it reveals various truths in its antihero.

Descent Story.

Scot Brick is one of my favorite narrators. It's like he feels the charitors perfect voice for telling stories. the book itself just didn't hit any highs for me I felt it kind of bland.

incredible

Easily Frank Herbert's best novel, the narration by Scott Brick helps make the story more immersive and gives life to Frank's enchanting words.

Surprising. Thought provoking. Complete.

this is unlike the dune series in many ways but very alike in others--filled with natural mystery, prophecy, the guidance of higher powers. i felt immersed, unable to nail down it's meaning but sure of it's truth.

Soul Catcher's Triumph

Very well read. Interesting story, almost like poetry. First Herbert book I've read. Tried Dune once but it didn't capture my interest.

Gave it a shot b/c it’s from F.H., glad I did

The story is good. It centers on few characters so you really feel/identify the mental psyche of each persona at some point. I gave narration only 4/5 stars because he was a really good narrator but I’ve become spoiled by the incredible voice work of people like Nick Podehl, or the style of Luke Daniels and I felt this guy gave a solid A- reading. The story is not a feel good romp just to give anyone a heads up who is looking for a light breezy jaunt down fairytale lane.

Good enough to eat up time.

A decent telling of what might be the day in the life of a psychotic Native American, but rather anticlimactic.

Narrator too Effusive

Story is interesting, but narrator is far too effusive, though skilled. Prefer 'invisible' narrator, this one distracting for this genre (poetry possibly more suitable)

Awesome Listen

Read the book years ago and enjoyed it then. Scott Brick brings it to life superbly in the audio version. I could not stop listening.

Never realized it before, but the end of the book seems to have a bit of a Stockholm syndrome to it. Probably because I didn’t know what Stockholm syndrome was when I read the book years ago.

Tough one to finish.

This books

It wasn't bad. I'm a fan of Scott Brick's narrations and he's the reason I decided to give this a chance.
I won't post spoilers, but I didn't care for the ending. I really felt let down and had to force myself to complete the book.

Story moves slowly

I only finished this story because it was relatively short. I forced myself on early on and again towards the middle. I also found the ending a bit of a letdown. Narration was awesome.
