A deathbed promise.
Arlyn's quest is simple: Find her father and let him know her mother is dead. After all, Arlyn had promised her mother she'd go. The problem? Her father's people are myths and legends, and he doesn't even live on Earth. But despite a long journey through the mysterious mists of the Veil, finding him turns out to be the easy part.
A dream long buried.
After 500 years, Kai has given up on finding his soulbonded. So when he stumbles across Arlyn after returning from his latest mission and recognizes her as his mate, Kai starts their bond in haste. But he never could have imagined that his bonded is his best friend's newfound daughter. Whoops.
A hidden conspiracy sparked to life.
Though the sight of Kai makes Arlyn's heart pound, she isn't sure she can forgive him for starting their bond without her permission. But her love life is the least of her problems. Her father is an elf lord, and his sudden acknowledgment of a half-human heir reignites the same conspiracy that took him away from her mother in the first place. Now Arlyn and her family must face iron-wielding assassins, bigotry, and her newly awakened magical abilities if they hope to come through in one piece.
Arlyn thought she would return to Earth after meeting her father. Now she must fight to save the family she never knew she wanted.

I have no problem with either narrator and believe that they portray all characters very well. Narrators tend to get a bit wobbly with the elfin language delivery.
I am moving on to the next book and perhaps I can put into words what feels a bit "so so."
Great world, great narrators, great to good storyline
If you're into fantasy give it a go
so so

Gabrielle de Cuir, is a talented narrator and keeps your attention.
Stefan Rudnicki - well Mr Rudnicki has a voice that is like a warm fire on a cold night in a rain storm that seeps in and keeps you comfortable and secure. When I noticed that he was one of the readers there was no question that I would select it.
Warning!

Every time the book switched to the female narrator I instantly want to turn he book off. At first I was thinking I hate the female lead, then it hit me, I don’t dislike the female lead, I hate how the narrator is portraying her. She portrayed the female lead as a whiny petulant child. Literally a little girl voice that she whined almost every line. She often made the male lead sound whiny too. She even managed to make the father sound whiny and cold at the same time. Apparently every character was whiny in the narrators mind. I kept having to remind myself that the only reason I wasn’t liking certain characters was because of how the female narrator was portraying them through her vocalization. If I hadn’t, I would have just quit and never listened/read another book by the author. I am glad that I switched to reading the book, it was actually good when I didn’t have the awful portrayal of the characters making me hate them.
Please ditch Gabriel de Cuir as a narrator…just let Stefan Rudnicki narrate the entire thing.
I will not listen to the next book (and I will make sure I never listen to anything narrated by Gabriel de Cuir again) I will read it myself because I like the story, but this was one of the worst narrators I have encountered.
The female narrator is awful
