About this listen

Patti Sheehy continues Frank Mederos' true-life story of romance, suspense, and intrigue in The Boy Who Said No: An Escape to Freedom.

After defecting from Cuba's Special Forces and making a harrowing escape from his homeland, Frank faces new challenges in America.

With five dollars in his pocket and a boatload of determination, he rejects an offer to join the CIA and takes his chances on achieving the American dream. Frank and his sweetheart Magda want nothing more than marriage, children, and a nice life for themselves. Frank dreams of celebrating milestone anniversaries with Magda, but his dreams are dashed. Instead, the couple faces a challenge neither of them could ever imagine. Meanwhile, sinister forces in Cuba plan to avenge Frank's escape.

Can Frank outwit Cuban operatives bent on killing him? Will he again overcome the forces of evil? A tale of tender love, devastating loss, and the life-saving power of friendship.

Terrific Read and Peek into Cuba

Stalked takes us readers from Frank's daring escape from Cuba to Frank's new American home with Magda as a small business owner in NJ. His determined journey to American in the rambunctious 60s, also captures a thought-
provoking perspective of the times. Highly recommend!

Okay, but too long

Contains a lot of unnecessary descriptions, making the story dull and much longer than necessary.

When destiny knocks, do you open the door.

My old boss was a Cuban refugee, and I remember some of the stories he told me about his dad and the bay of pigs, some of the attacks Castro ordered on his own population were very similar to this book. The book is tragic, heartbreaking, with a lot of strength shown in the human spirit.

Riveting & thought provoking

Gave me a much better understanding of the plight of the Cubans under Castro and why they have given up hope for a better future. So very sad.
