Editorial reviews

Narrator Heather Ford's gorgeous voice is accompanied by rousing sound effects such as a creaking or slamming door, a fire igniting, and water being added to a pot. When a visitor to the village wants people to help him make soup, no one wants to participate. They all say selfishly, "I don't care, I won't share." Slowly, people unbend, and Ford's presentation warms as they decide to contribute a small carrot or a bean, etc. Ford's voice is lovely as she lists what people will finally add to the soup. Young listeners hear a subtle lesson when she concludes that the magic ingredient is sharing. Every bit counts - from the largest to the smallest.

Critic reviews

"The simple, direct telling is enhanced by the addition of several folkloric-style rhymes and Gaber's rich acrylic paintings that depict a multiethnic global village and brightly colored vegetables....this will be welcomed by young listeners and storytellers alike." ( Booklist)

Loved by 4 and 6 year old

Both ask to hear it repeatedly. Worth reminding to share to create more rewarding experiences.

Awesome moral!

Love this book. Teaches that sharing is the magic ingredient, whether you share a tiny amount or a large amount and that everyone matters.

Excellent story with a great message!

The recording is a bit light in the volume, but crank it up and chant along to the repetitive chorus “Bring what you’ve got, put it in the pot, we’re making stone soup!”

Together We May All Eat

One of my all time favorite stories, Stone Soup, is well presented here. This tale never loses its impact. We have brought our five children up listening to it and now our ten grandkids. A classic, not to be missed.

The Power of Cooperation and Mutual Assistance

This story is an example of many life lessons. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Through generosity, no one goes hungry. Selflessness triumps. Aa children should hear this story and experience making the soup.
