About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry comes a sweeping Western romance about undeniable attraction, unforeseen circumstances, and seemingly unbeatable odds.

My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name.

As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either.

Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.

For as hard as I work at my job, I work twice as hard to pretend Jax doesn’t exist. I don’t let myself think about his dazzling eyes or charming smile. I refuse to acknowledge how good he looks in a pair of faded Wrangler jeans. And as tempting as he is in a cowboy hat, Jax is a distraction I cannot afford.

Everything was going according to plan until the annual holiday party. Until I drank one too many flutes of champagne and let him sweep me off my feet. After a night in his bed, there was no more ignoring Jax Haven. Not when I’m pregnant with his baby.

Loooooove

I’m usually a silent reader/listener, but I loved this book so much. As a social worker, there were so many great elements in this story that were very well depicted. I deeply appreciated how Devney told a story of two people with terribly traumatic past, and how they learn and grow from their traumas together.

This series just keeps getting better and better! I've been a huge fan of 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲'𝐬 writing for a long time. She stole my heart with Jupiter Hill and I haven't been the same since! Her ability to write vulnerable characters is so unique. Ones that find a safe place in each other in a beautiful found family way. And this book was exactly that!

“𝑰𝒇 𝑰 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒏, 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒇𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒔?”
“𝑵𝒐, 𝑰’𝒎 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒘𝒃𝒐𝒚. 𝑶𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆, 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒃𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓. 𝑾𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒔, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒗𝒆.”

𝐒𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐚 and 𝐉𝐚𝐱 might have been complete opposites in most ways. But they were the perfect example of opposites attract. He was messy, cocky, and a HUGE part of his small town. While Sasha was organized, quiet, and withdrawn! But even though they were total opposites they both brought out something beautiful in each other. And that was only amplified when they were brought together even closer when Sasha fell pregnant.

Jax was one swoony observant cowboy! He had it bad for Sasha from the very beginning without even realizing it. I LOVED the way this man watched her! Noting every expression she made and what it meant. Like the way her features changed when she lied or when she was nervous. It was ADORABLE! He also knew exactly when she was too far in her head and was beginning to spiral and how to center her and put her focus on something else. I couldn't get enough of his swoony cowboy ways. Every time this man said "𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩" I melted. Beautifully done Devney!!

“𝑻𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕.”
𝑶𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅. 𝑨 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚, 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒔𝒂𝒚. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒘𝒂𝒚. “𝑰 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒎𝒆.”

Sasha's character was so special. I absolutely loved her from the very start. She had such a gentle nature. And Devney did such a great job of bringing that side out. I loved getting to know more and more about her. We knew she was holding back a lot of secrets. And the more I learned the more I loved her character. She was so selfless. Life hadn't been the kindest to her, but she still stayed so strong and beautifully humble.

Devney did such an incredible job on their relationship. From the very start, the push and pull they had going on!! I couldn't put this book down, especially once Jax became determined to win Sasha's heart and make her fall in love with Montana! I was obsessed!!

“𝑺𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒈𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒚.”
“𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏’. 𝑳𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒆.”

One thing that really stood out to me in this book was Sasha's adamancy about the baby never being labeled as an accident. And the way that Jax could relate to that feeling! It was so well conveyed. And the way I could 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋 Sasha's emotions every time it was mentioned. Ahh. It was perfect!

If you're looking for a series with some sexy cowboys who are determined to win over the hearts of the FMCs in the most swoon-worthy way, this series is for you!!

𝔻𝕦𝕒𝕝 𝕟𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟
𝑵𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚: 𝑺𝒕𝒆𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑫𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒗𝒂 𝑬𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒔𝒐𝒏

I love these two narrators so much. But I'm not sure I've ever heard them do a book together! And my gosh! We need more of these two performing together! There was just something about Stephen playing a swoony cocky cowboy that had me completely captivated! He did such an incredible job as Jax!! Ava played Sasha and she truly did her character justice! Ava's ability to play such a vulnerable female character is one of my favorites! It was so well done. I loved it. This audiobook was beautiful. And that's really the only way to describe it.

Felt Familiar

I loved the first audiobook in the series and the second delivered again. Sasha’s story really resonated with me so I feel like I was able to connect with her emotions throughout the book. The voice acting was also good. I wasn’t picturing Jax voice to be so rough but I enjoyed it. -(Taylor)

Another beautiful book and audiobook from Devney Perry

This book was everything I needed and more, I have been in an absolute book slump because life, but I couldn't put this down (more accurately, I couldn't pause my audiobook) and finished it within 48 hours. This series will live rent-free in my head for quite some time.

Jax and Sasha have such a fun story. Jax is our playboy, outgoing cowboy. He goes all out for those he cares for and loves. Sasha is a driven, sweet young woman who is doing everything she can to stay afloat when she accepts a position at Haven River Ranch.

A night of passion (and a lot of it) leads to an accidental pregnancy. I know, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's my cup of tea, and I feel as though this book should be the standard at which accidental pregnancy tropes are written.

The way these two slowly opened up to each other was beautiful, sweet, and a realistic relationship in a beautiful setting. If I could visit any fictional place, it might just be Haven River Ranch.

If you've also read Crossroads, I think you'll appreciate the time lapse between the two books as well!

Sunlight !!!

WE HAVE MY FIRST EVER SMALL TOWN INFINITY SERIES !!!

i just learned today that the masterpiece that is haven river ranch is a duet and not a full series .. and i truly think that is perfect for this small montana town . a perfect moment captured in time that i truly will cherish forever . also it’s one of the BEST accidental pregnancy books i have ever read and that’s a top three trope of mine !

this is without a doubt devney’s best work to date . and it’s not very often that i say a small town series changed my soul .. but this duet did . it’s so beautifully emotional while being so real and raw . i have never felt so represented in my thoughts and feelings . truly a comfort read i know i will be coming back too again and again .

4.5 stars

I loved coming back to Haven River Ranch. Sunlight is Book 2 in the series. This is Jax and Sasha's story. On Sasha's first day in Montana she gets in a tug-of-war over a grocery shopping cart. Enter Jax. He comes to help with the scuffle. Sparks fly and he asks Sasha on a date, but when she finds out his name she declines. He happens to be her new boss at her new work. So on her first day at the job she pretends he's a stranger. She avoids him at all costs until the holiday party where they spend the night together. Weeks later she finds out she's pregnant with Jax's baby.

Jax and Sasha's meet cute was so funny and unexpected! Loved how Jax was a gentleman and stepped up to diffuse the situation. I immediately felt the electric chemistry between them. It was a short encounter, but I loved how they asked eachother questions to break the awkwardness. I loved how their relationship progressed naturally even with the pregnancy it brought them closer.

As for the audiobook narration, it was fantastic! Performed in dual narration by Stephen Dexter and Ava Erickson. These two were amazing as always. Stephen does grumpy so well. He brought out Jax's charm and he exuded Jax's patience and care with Sasha. As for Ava, she portrayed Sasha with a cool and calm tone. She gave that lightheartedness that Sasha had. Together they brought out the bickering and playfulness between Jax and Sasha.

The best Trope Accidental Pregnancy trope

Spoiler Alert maybe not sure

Another hit from Devney Perry for me. I know a lot of people don’t like the accidental pregnancy trope but I love it and it and if it’s done well. I was so ready for Jax book after reading book 1 I went in ready to finish my hate for lily(west mom) but as Jax healed and forgave lily I did also. Sacha ooh how I love she found family that will love and accept her.

Great story but…

I have to preface this by saying that I’ve read and listened to Crossroads about 5 times since I stumbled on the recommendation back in June so I was immediately stoked to know there was a book 2 incoming in the same year. Jax wasn’t a big staple in the first book but I was curious to learn his backstory and how he felt about the whole Lily thing.

Starting in on Sunlight I kept listening and waiting for the big reveal only to honestly be a bit disappointed we got a non answer to that situation.

The back and forth of Jax and Sasha along with the big time jumps got a bit old for me in the end. Jax’s immaturity level at the beginning annoyed me as well as him pouting that he got rejected and then left after the initial one night stand after he had apparently done it to many women before Sasha was a ‘really?’ moment for me.

That being said, he for sure redeemed himself and, even with time jumps, you saw him mature and take being a father so seriously that I ended up really rooting for Sasha to wake up and take this man already!

Can’t wait to see what else, perhaps Emery and Zak, comes out of the Haven River Ranch series.
