Publisher's summary

Beyond Mommie Dearest - the inspiring and shattering sequel to the groundbreaking number one New York Times best seller.

At publication, the world as I knew it blew up in my face.

Christina Crawford’s Mommie Dearest cast a spotlight on the unspoken horrors of family violence and exorcised the demons of her childhood. But in the years following the controversial best seller’s publication, the author’s resilience was tested in ways she never expected.

Crawford was forced to brave a stunning backlash intended to shame her, a film adaptation that bastardized her story and compounded the trauma, a descent into alcoholism, a divorce that ruined her financially, and a massive stroke that left her paralyzed. Staying true to her fighting spirit, she made a remarkable comeback.

More than a personal memoir of triumph over tragedy, Survivor - now with a new preface for its 30th anniversary - is an enlightening spiritual road map to recovery for anyone who has suffered the ordeals of physical and emotional abuse, devastating illness, or seemingly insurmountable despair. Crawford’s story is not just about the will to survive; it is about the unparalleled joy of coming out on the other side, finding calm, and celebrating a fulfilling life.

Superb, Profound

The best book I have ever listened to. I was astounded by the similarities and experiences.

An interesting and informative listen

While this book was not my favorite, I did find it a solid companion to the author's original book, Mommie Dearest. If you want to hear what happened after the first book was released, this is for you. I did find the book to drag in parts but it is generally short lived. Interesting stories about Cristina's health, her marriage and the aftermath of the infamous movie.

Liked the narration

The story had some interesting parts and some that were fragmented and went from a memoir to some kind of spiritual journey which didn’t always make sense and I found boring. I almost didn’t finish it. I loved Mommy dearest, this does not compare.

I hoped for more

I just finished the 40th anniversary version of Mommie Dearest and was curious about the follow up. Wish I hadn’t spent the money or wasted my time.

Her lifetime of victimization - both real and seemingly perceived slights - is her brand. For her sake, I hoped for more personal growth and catharsis. But that’s not to be found here.

It was an exhausting read without payoff. I can only imagine what it must be to live thru her story.

Genuinely hope she ultimately found some sense of peace and happiness.

This isn’t a story I’ll ever revisit.

What a mess

I liked the book Mommy Dearest but this one is just a mess. It does not know what it wants to be or is even about. She jumps around way too much and goes so way out with her newfound beliefs about how she changed souls with someone else and such crazy talk the book is hard to listen too. Don't get me wrong, I am very openminded about things but she really seems to be losing it. It makes me wonder just how much of Mommy Dearest is even true now.
