About this listen

In Swimming to Catalina, ex-cop turned Manhattan attorney and investigator Stone Barrington is back, still smarting from his sudden breakup with brilliant, beautiful magazine writer Arrington Carrington, who has left him to marry Hollywood's hottest male star, Vance Calder. Then Calder calls Stone for help: Arrington has vanished without a trace, and Calder, refusing to call the police, wants Stone to find her.

Arriving in LA with little to go on, Stone soon finds himself in the deepest kind of trouble as he nearly drowns in a sea of lost leads and empty clues that take him from Bel Air to Malibu to Rodeo Drive. In a town where the sharks drive Bentleys and no one can be trusted, Stone must use all his wits to find Arrington and keep his head above water...without losing it.

Drenched in Hollywood glitz and glamour, and filled with the dizzying plot twists and turns that have made his novels New York Times best sellers and international sensations, Swimming to Catalina is Stuart Woods' fastest paced, most riveting and unabashedly fun thriller.

Channeling Phillip Marlow

Raymond Chandler echos all about Stone Barrington's aura. Especially as Barrington pokes about the1930-40;s kliegs of Hollywood studios. Back then, Chandler'is Phillip Marlow''s wide shoulders (designed by the same firm that did Stonehenge) butted through layers of power bosses, mobsters, elites, and including ... of course easy damsels (frequently in distress). If reading Marlow snaps us back to that fedora/double breasted world Stone Barrington's crime tech... or the lack of it... is almost as foreign from today as Barrington's 1990s adventures were to Chandler. Time's flow seems seamless 'til we're plopped into
some decades-ago moment.

All that's the charm to me of Barrington particularly here as his improbable adventures take us to those thrilling days of yesteryear... Heh heh...

OK prepare to suspend disbelief over some of this tale's life saving coincidences... it's a good listen. Woods likes to write movie action while Tony Roberts' nails Barrington's hard-boiled voice.

“Swimming to Catalina” is an excellent read.

Great read; but it is better if it is read in the order it was written. There are characters in it that relate to each other to tie the books together.

One of the best Stone Barrington works

This story seemed to have everything we've come to love about Stone; adventure, plot twists, interesting characters, and to top it off, the usual perfect voice for Stone in Tony Roberts.

Very entertaining!

One of the best Stuart Woods books I’ve read.
At least he wasn’t sleeping with every woman he met which is so boring. He was in some very
difficult situations which was a page turner. I hope woods writes more books like this and leaves out all the sex. And Tony Roberts is an excellent narrator!

Excellent Story

Easy Read. Good Story. Too much swearing. Good beginning for background information on Arrington. Would liked Arrington meeting up with Stone.
