Publisher's summary

Someone is watching me. Luckily, my mountain man is watching over me.

Hope:

I didn’t think they would find me here. I moved to the small town of Whiskey River three months ago, hoping I would finally be safe from my past. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can breathe easier.

Then I meet the mountain man who makes my breath quicken. And my heart race.

He’s my protector–safe in his strong arms.

But my past is coming for me…and he might end up paying the price.

Cash:

The tracks along the treeline were my first clue. I might not have experience with women, but I know my way around the woods. And Hope is not safe living out here alone.

And I’m pretty sure that’s my fault.

Her stalker knows I have money, and that I’ll pay any price to keep the woman I love safe from harm.

But what her stalker doesn’t know is that I plan on making them pay instead.

Hooked!

I loved that this was a shorter book that hooked me in from the very start! I listened to this is one sitting because I wanted to know what was gonna do down. I really enjoyed the plot, the characters and of course the audio performance itself. The narrators did a great job portraying these characters!

Almost Unbearable Narration

The female narrator sounds like a drunk, old has-been southern bell when speaking as the main character. I almost couldn’t continue after the first chapter. But I like this series, so I forced myself to finish it. The male narrator has a nice voice but his loud and frequent intakes of breath are distracting. Of course, we all need to breathe, but I’ve never noticed this in any other audio book before. I wish I had listened to the sample before I bought this, because I never would have. I would have gotten the hard copy.

Loved the story

While I loved the story, I couldn’t get past the voice of the female narrator, she sounded like she belonged in a brothel. I moved to the next audio book and purchased this in kindle app to read instead.

The Journey Continues

I am in absolute love with this series! Of course, the more steamy scenes tingle even my skin, but more than that, the clarity of the writing…the storyline and character development…it’s just done SO well!! I genuinely feel as though, if the characters were real, they’d be who I want in my life- it’s a sort of friendship & community my soul strives to create & be a part of. Also! The narrators are AMAZING as per always!! It’s another pattern of brilliance having a different pair of narrators for each book - everything flows well and just “fits”. (Also, yay for Emily & Axel!)
On to book 4!!!

Sweet Romance, and Suspense

This is the third book in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River series. This is a series of interconnected stories. Cash and Hope's story is sweet, and heartwarming, filled with mystery, and suspense. Elizabeth Russell and Bryant Walker did a good job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to listening to Take Me To The Mountain, the next book in the series. #PFPAudio

Mountain man romance with a touch of suspense

I listened to the audio version of this book. Although this book is in a series, it could be read as a standalone. This book is about Hope and Cash. Hope is pretty new to town and meets Cash. Cash is a burly mountain man who had never been in a grocery store until he met Hope. Hope and Cash strike up a quick relationship. There are a few hiccups along the way. Hope has a stalker and Cash will do anything to keep Hope safe. The stalker turns out to be someone Hope knows. Cash and Hope just fit together. Hope appreciated Cash's mountain lifestyle. Quick story and good if you like protective mountain men with a touch of suspense.

4 stars!

4 stars 3 steamy kisses
book #3 in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River

small-town romance, romantic suspense, protective alpha hero, smart and kind heroine, multiple pov, dual pov, both main characters v-card holders, steamy, family drama, miscommunication trope, instant attraction

I really enjoyed the audiobook (enough so to give the story the additional star as had I read the book I may have leaned towards a 3-3.5 star as I'm not a big fan of the miscommunication trope). The multiple pov's didn't bother me (and usually they do) but for this story it was good, it worked to move the story along.

Love these stories but almost stopped in the middle

These stories are so captivating but I couldn’t get past Hope’s character’s voice. It was like I was listening to Blanche from the Golden Girls. The accent was too much and took away from the story. Yes, people from the south have accents but the way this one was done was over the top. I wish I would have just read the book because it is amazing

Good book, not so great performance.

While the book made for a great third in the series, the fake southern accent of the female voice actor was atrocious. I felt like my pre Revolutionary War Georgian grandmother was telling me about how she met grandpa but in some sort of time warp with internet and meth. Too often it took away from the story.
