Publisher's summary

Mairi MacGregor hoped to never again lay eyes on Connor Grant. She was 10 and one when he promised her he would one day build them a home in her beloved Highlands, spending their lives together. But she was 10 and seven and foolishly weeping when he rode out of the Highlands to join the English Royal Army. She wouldn’t be so foolish as to waste tears on him now. Devoted to her beloved Scotland, Mairi believes Connor is a turncoat and a liar, and there’s nothing she despises more than that. No one but her brother, Colin, knows that Mairi is part of a rebel militia, quietly gaining intelligence and exposing traitors to Scotland using whatever means necessary. Now, at King James’ court in England, she’s determined to keep her missions secret and keep the one man with the power to bring her to her knees at arm’s length—her heart be damned.

Royal Captain Connor Grant never wanted to leave Mairi, but he’d had no choice. It was his duty to serve his family’s name, and no matter how he asked her to wait, his lass had refused. He’s never stopped loving her, though, and seeing the beautiful, passionate, yet mysterious woman she’s become at court has taken his breath away. But King James has powerful enemies, and Connor isn’t deaf to the whispers of treachery in court. So when the king disappears in the middle of the night with Mairi’s brother as his only protection, Connor suspects Mairi is involved. As one secret after another unravels about the king’s whereabouts and the whispers of a coup grow ever stronger, can Connor trust the one woman who still has his heart?

Best in the Series

I liked this book best out of the series. It's best to read the series in order it is more exciting to hear what other characters were doing at the same time as the ones from the previous book. It flowed VERY well. I liked the way this book tied up the series and gave a conclusion to all three books. It also had more suspense & mystery than the others. Good series if not just a little predictable. At times the relationships between the main characters seemed to drag on and repeat the same feelings. However, the stories were very interesting and well read.

Captivating Series

The third in the series and still captivating

After the fall of her brothers into domesticated bliss, Mairi won't settle for less, even to the one and only man she had. Listen up Connor Grant.

Paula Quinn has created what series are made for, captivating until the last moment. Carrington MacDuffie just made it more so.

Liked the previous two better

Would you listen to Tamed by a Highlander again? Why?

eh. Not sure. About 1/3 of the way in, Mairi (the heroine) really started to grate on my nerves. I understand she is suppose to be a tough guy but she came across arrogant and ignorant at the same time. To quick to act before thinking. It got old after awhile. If I was Connor I would have throttled her.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Again, it was ok. A little too sugary, sappy but ok. Can't give too much away.

What about Carrington MacDuffie’s performance did you like?

A little monotonanous after awhile. Accents were ok.

Any additional comments?

Good series. I bought the next one in the series. I really enjoyed the first two - they weren't quite as predictable and a little more in depth.

Paula Quinn, you never cease to amaze me.

Mairi McGregor and Conner Grant were childhood friends.
Conner promised Mari he would build her a home when
they were younger. Conner had to leave to serve the King.
Mairi's heart was broken. They meet again years later.
Get ready for betrayal, danger to the king, never giving
up on love and jealously. I listened to this Audio book
twice it was so good. A Highland and a sassy Highlander
Lass is a combination like no other!

Glad it worked out for Connor & Mairi

I'm reading the series slightly out of order…I jumped to this book after reading the 1st one because I really wanted to know more about Connor Grant & Mairi McGregor's love story & pronto!

This series has provided such a wonderful cast of characters--families who are renown from generations for their courage, leadership and passion. This series gives you the fierce McGregor warriors (including Mairi) from the Highlands, the Grants (who are the combination of royal English and Highland families) and entrance into King James' tumultuous court.

I admired Connor from the beginning as he was raised in the Highlands, but was serving as a Captain of the Guard in England due to the connections on his mother's side as a Stewart. Gorgeous, golden, level-headed Connor is like a brother to the McGregor's and comfortable in the King's court, as a protector of the Crown. Now, his love interest--the only McGregor daughter holds a strong character (as one would expect from such a fierce Highland family). She is as sharp-tongued, capable and determined as she is beautiful. Both Connor and Mairi share a love that is deeply rooted in childhood. However, this love was interrupted as Connor took on the mantle of his service to the Crown, a move Mairi internalized as a personal insult.---Talk about a bad break up!!! For this reason, both Connor and Mairi have a lot of ground to cover and many years of hurt and misunderstandings to resolve.

In this book there is intrigue, mystery, definite betrayal and a constant pursuit of love. There are parts in this book that were very slow, and dragged, while other parts were just fabulous. Most of the book, Connor is chasing the very stubborn-headed Mairi. My goodness!! The woman is impulsive with her anger, and seems to believe the worst, at times. It was funny how Connor responded to this side of her by man-handling her a bit which totally melted her defense mechanisms. Yes, Connor definitely has a tiger by the tail with Mairi, but it just works for both of them. They express their love differently, but at the heart of it, they were both so madly in love with one another.

I liked the ending and the epilogue was a plus because you get a glimpse of how the other couples in the series are doing….what a happy family!!! Great read/listen!

The narrator was good, although some parts her voicing was somewhat indistinguishable for some of the characters, yet it did not detract from the story…overall a good listening experience!

Mmmmm...Connor!

Would you listen to Tamed by a Highlander again? Why?

I probably would...maybe fast through some parts but slow through others! I loved the romantic interactions and the banter between Mairi and Connor, but then there were parts that seemed to be a bit repetitive.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tamed by a Highlander?

The love scene in the cabin!

What about Carrington MacDuffie’s performance did you like?

She is either growing on me or she is getting better at the male highlander voices...not sure which. Still not my favorite narrator, but she is way better than in the first book.

Any additional comments?

I did feel like this book in the series was better than the first, but not as good as the second. BUT Connor and Mairi are by far my favorite characters. It came down to the author spent too much time reminding me of what had happened in the first book and then the struggle within Mairi and Connor's own minds about how they "would not fall in love again" got old. I mean it seemed like the same thing over and over. That being said...when Connor and Mairi interacted it was fabulous! Connor was so strong but loving and never once acted like a sap. Mairi was strong willed and physically capable to take care of herself but enjoyed feeling like a woman with Connor. I can totally understand why...Connor is .... delicious!

What about Carrington MacDuffie’s performance did you like?

She always does an excellent job with the voice changes and the accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The happy ending.
