Being the voice behind the radio means I’ve seen it all—rangers coming and going, rescuing hikers, and even falling in love. As much as I’m thrilled for my team, watching them leave to chase their happily-ever-afters only makes me feel lonelier.
There’s one ranger I can’t help but dream about, though. Cole has been here the longest, and I know him better than anyone. We talk during the quiet moments, but he keeps me at arm’s length. I’ve convinced myself I’m stuck in the friend zone with him. Why would a grumpy, rugged ranger ever feel the same about me?

I took this job to escape people, not get stuck longing for the one person who’s always been there for me. Jade’s voice is my lifeline, her presence the highlight of my day, and I know I shouldn’t want more.
