Publisher's summary

I am always with you. I will always be here.

This was the promise Ella’s mother betrayed thirty years ago when she walked into the sea, leaving her five-year-old daughter alone in the world. Ella’s been angry ever since, building up a wall to protect herself. But that all changes the day she opens a newspaper and finds those ten little words printed in a classified ad.

Ella refuses to believe her mother could still be alive - that would mean she did want to live, just not with her daughter. So she throws herself into finding out exactly what happened all those years ago, determined to extinguish even the tiniest flame of hope - for Ella, hope is torture.

But rather than settling things once and for all, what Ella discovers shatters her world. As she pieces together the truth behind her mother’s disappearance, she learns that the words are not what she thought.

Now she knows the truth. Is it possible that Ella can allow herself to love - and be loved - once again?

Easy to guess but still lovely

Love, love, love this book! I guessed the trauma pretty early on but I still enjoyed reading the story. Ella got the ending she deserved.

So very angsty

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. I thought that the angst was going to kill me there for a while. Highly recommend.

Amazing

This is the most amazing offer. I have now read three of her books, and each one has elicited such an emotional response. From tears and pangs-it’s as if she knows how to elicit such feeling, touching deeply into similar emotions from similar experiences. Deeply touching books.

Abundance of eye-rolls

First if all, if I had to hear those "ten little words" spoken again... ugh so sappy and annoying!
Typical "soap opera" British story where someone keeps an unnecessary secret for 30 years which ruins 3 lives. Not until the last 30 minutes of the book is the truth revealed to the characters, a "truth" which I figured out less than halfway through the book.
