About this listen
"You consider yourself to be a creature of light...but you long for the darkness. It's where you belong. It's who you are... Do you not think I recognize the parts of a soul that mirror my own?"
Meg Giry grew up with tales of the Opera Ghost, a spectral being said to haunt the Paris Opera House. But when he rescues her from rape in the streets of Paris, Meg learns that the stories are true, that the ghost, also known as the Phantom of the Opera, is a real man, with his sights set on her best friend, Christine Daae. Despite being warned to stay away, Meg is drawn deeper into a world that has remained secret for years, her life becoming inextricably linked with the dark and mysterious Erik, and is forced to confront the darkness that lurks within her own past, finding herself always in the shadow of an Angel of Music....

A poor interpretation of a magnificently complex character
I purchased this in earnest; desiring a new interpretation of a beloved story. Sadly, this novella suffers from the same lack of understanding and limitations that many younger/edgelord authors possess. I’m nearly a three decade veteran of the POTO phandom in all its myriad incarnations, and this book was sadly one of the most disappointing.
Erik’s arbitrary cruelties are out of place and out of character, particularly when accounting for the ALW musical’s canon as basis. There are moments that one has hope for the narrative, but the author frequently subverts those or entirely derails m by interjecting random bouts of in opportune and frankly out of character violence and inappropriateness.
If you have the credit to spare and there’s nothing else to tempt you on your wishlist, by all means, spend a credit for this audiobook.
Have you the time to read? There are dozens more worthy phics available to you on fanfiction.net and Archive of our Own.
