Publisher's summary

The key to winning arguments, owning debates, and becoming the most influential in the room!

No matter how confident you are or whether you even consider yourself a leader or not. You see, we all know somebody who is able to speak the right words in the right moments. Whether they want something done or somehow are able to charm every person they meet. It seems like they're always able to say the right things, no matter the situation. What is it that makes them different from others?

Why are persuasion and influence such elusive skills for you but not for them? I'll let you in on a secret: there's no difference between them and you. If you've believed that some people are born with a silver tongue while others aren't, think again.

The tightness in your chest or rush of blood you feel when having a heated debate isn't something you have to deal with anymore. You no longer have to endure the anxiety of trying to speak your mind and convince other people of your ideas for a second longer.

Luke Warren knows the power logical thinking has, affecting the outcome of even the most stressful situations, and how you can unlock that power.

In The Art of Debating, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • Why we are drawn to some people more than others, and how you can take advantage of these reasons
  • What successful persuasion is really all about
  • How asking for outlandish favors can actually make people more likely to give you what you want
  • The five obstacles holding you back from becoming a master persuader and how you can start to overcome them right now.
  • The three crucial types of appeals you must utilize in a debate for a strong argument that convinces both your audience and your opponent.

And, much more!

Having Options

In today's day in age where it seems everybody is willing to live and die with their opinions, it is crucial to be able to have a good, healthy debate. However, with so many different personalities out there, every debate must be approached differently. This book was a great eye-opener to different strategies to bring to a debate. With such a divide in the world based on ideological thinking, having the skills this book portrays can greatly benefit us all to healthy discussions.

Powerful Skill

I wish I had listened to this when I was a kid. I learned so much within the first few chapters and already felt more equipped in persuasion and how to get what I want. My favorite part was the sections on asking for outlandish flavors. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting the upper edge on debating.

Very Informative and Spot On

Not just for Millennials and Gen Z this book covers techniques for everyone of all ages. So many things transfer over, but what was nice is that this book discusses how information flows in todays online world. Anyone who has found themselves struggling with debating, whereas before it was never an issue, needs to read this book to realize just how different things are for the generations growing up in the digital world of today with information being thrown around everywhere (good and bad information). This is a great listen and I'd definitely recommend it!

Oh, I love this kind of discourse

I'm naturally argumentative, but that doesn't mean that I'm a good debater. So, I'm always trying to sharpen my skills. (If I'm going to get into arguments, I might as well WIN!) And I love the 7 Techniques in this book. Some basic stuff, but also some really innovative ways to think about debate. Excellent narrator too.

Brilliant concepts!

Debating diplomatically is indeed an art and this book does a fine job of exploring what it takes to influence and persuade others. For an introvert like myself, it is really challenging to muster the courage to do the back and forth. I'm happy to have learned the techniques in this book to more effectively communicate with others!

Good suggestions and examples. Hard to understand at times

Good points. Great examples we can relate to. A bit hard to follow. Not enough pause between sentences. Maybe if I played it at a slower speed <1 it would be easier to follow.
