About this listen

Murder, mystery, and a dog, and cat, of distinction.

A dazzling ball in a rooftop ballroom in one of the most prestigious mansions in the country. Dancing, music, champagne, ravishing ball gowns, priceless jewellery...and murder.

Jack Dutton died in the dark. Why? Who hated him enough to kill him? Why had he made a list of gemstones and their prices? What was he guilty of? Dutton had been a handsome war hero, but tragedy surrounded him, and his nature had always been unpredictable. When Lennox and Swift begin peeling away the layers of deceit, they uncover some vile secrets, secrets that have already led to Dutton's murder, and it's not long before there's another.

Belvedere House hosts the highest of high society, and yet even among its glittering halls, evil creeps in to catch the unwary, and the unwitting.

Major Heathcliff Lennox: ex WW1 war pilot, six feet, three inch, tousled dark blond hair, age around 30, named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother–much to his great annoyance.

Charm and suspense

This is a solid edition to the Lennox series. There weren’t any earthshaking surprises, but there is a nice tease for the next book. Great narration as always with Sam.

Good, as usual!

I always have enjoyed the narration. However, this time there was one character that was really hard to listen to. Once I realized which character this voice sounded like, I couldn't stop giggling. I won't tell you, so you can figure it out...

well rounded narration of a fully engaging storyline!

I truly enjoy the fact that in today's society where nothing seems to be taboo, these stories are true to their timeframe. People are horrified by murder, sex is NOT a table talk subject and it isn't a distraction from the story which doesn't need that kind of element to make the story interesting. Murder is. ever genteel and it is always something that should horrify us. I love the fact that I don't have to skip over sex or treatment of death as blase to search for the real mystery of the story. The mystery is the story. The information given about the characters allows us to come to know them and how they came to the values that shape their ideas and actions. Thank you Karen and Sam for the great story and perfect narration. You really are a great team!

Another winner!

this series continues to be brilliant . the books are not showing any signs of getting stale or repetitive. narration by Sam Dewhurst-Philips is incredible, each character different. Heathcliff and his family, including the inspector and his wife and son continue to grow. here's to more books. keep them coming Karen.
