For Everyone….except maybe married individuals.
I’m not Buddhist, I’m actually Christian but found myself feeling stagnant in my studies and faith. I didn’t have desire to open the scriptures and I felt stuck in the social media rut. I prayed and asked God to show me what I needed in my life to feel energized in my faith again. Nick’s YouTube channel and then this book were two of several things I felt led to. I knew I had to try the 24 hour cleanse. It has really helped a lot and was the jump start that I needed.
I would like to repeat this cleanse several times a week, however, I’m a little confused. I’m not sure if this cleanse was mostly meant for unmarried individuals or if it is expected for married people to eventually become completely celibate…? I’m thinking that abstaining from sex and sleeping on the floor instead of in the bed with my spouse may not go over too well or be good for our relationship….so not sure what the expectation from Buddhist philosophy is there, but obviously I will be modifying a bit. 🙃

Buddhist ethics basic training
The audiobook author urges, rouses and encourages you to take the 8 training rules of a lay Buddhist practitioner for a single day. This single day approach effectively encourages the development of more skillful habits by starting out “small “ and reflecting on the results.
I have been working towards establishing these rules as a daily practice (I am retired) and the book was helpful for my purposes because it addressed various blind spots, hinderances and habits that were relevant to me, and encouraged taking action as well as stopping unskillful actions.
The author’s good will, compassion and altruistic joy radiate from his words leaving the listener confident that the one day detox is worth mastering and reflecting on.
I appreciate the author mentioning that this is the book he wishes he had to guide him earlier in life. I understand and also know how much better my life could have been had I kept these “shields” earlier.
The author is probably most appreciated by teenagers through young adults (40’s?) who can relate to his background (See the information about the author) and online presence.
