About this listen

All she wanted was an apartment

Amanda Jackson was used to toxic men. Its all she'd ever known. And this gorgeous blonde property manager, Connor Brooks, was a walking red flag. But she needed a place to stay, and this unit sounded amazing. She'd be crazy not to look at it.

For Connor, finding a mark was easy. A simple ad in the classifieds. Once they were inside, it was too late to escape. They had no way out. One look at their frightened eyes on the monitor, that's when the housebreaking could begin.

The second Connor closed the door, Amanda understood her situation. She was trapped and defenseless. Or was she? She has one card to play: make her captor fall for her before it was too late.

All she wanted was an apartment. What she got was The Cage.

The Cage is the first book in a dark series by Danielle Bannister, author of Girl on Fire. Because The Cage is told in dual POVs, you might be torn over if this book is a horror or a romance. Please be sure to listen with care and check for tropes on the author's website.

A Cage

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it won't be my last. I was intrigued by the blurb and then completely pulled in from the first chapter. I loved getting the different POV's throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

It does end on a cliffhanger that left me anxious for the next book.

The audio was really well done. I really enjoyed listening to it. The narrators really brought the characters to life.

The Cage

This is a very unique book. I didn't know I would enjoy it so much. This book defiantly may be triggering for some. Please check TW before starting. At first, I was unsure if I was going to like the crass way Connor handled his "pets". As I continued listening, I just couldn't stop. I love that both Connor and Malcom's POV too. I need the rest of this series. I need more from these characters!! It ended so abruptly; I just wasn't ready.

Sarah Puckett, Oliver Highpoint, and Marcus Zarco did a fabulous job narrating these characters and book.

The Cage

The Cage is the first book I've listened to by Danielle Bannister. This book is about Amanda Jackson and Conner Brooks and is told from both of their points of view.

Amanda is struggling to make it after leaving an abusive relationship. She finds a great deal on an apartment, almost too good to be true. When she gets there she meets Conner. She realizes the apartment isn't what it seems when he locks her in and says she's now his pet.

Conner is in the business of selling women, who don't have anyone in their lives who would notice they were missing. He wants to sell Amanda to Malcolm who sold him his building and he wants to get dirt on him.

How will Amanda take this new life she is in? What happens when Conner realizes that Amanda is different? What happens when Amanda meets Malcolm?

This was a fast read, and I'm interested to see what happens next.

Dark!

The Cage is the perfect cross between dark romance and psychological thriller. It is dark and twisted and just the way I love my books. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning all the way until the end. I didn't expect it to end in a cliffhanger but I read that a sequel is coming soon which I can't wait to read or listen to. I had never heard of Danielle Bannister before but I will definitely be checking out her other books now. Sarah Puckett, Oliver Highpoint and Marcus Zarco all did an excellent job bringing this story to life.

Great Read

The Cage was another great read by Danielle Bannister. Amanda Jackson is used to toxic men. She’s looking for an apartment and meets the gorgeous blonde property manager, Connor Brooks. The unit sounds amazing and she knows that she’d be crazy not to look at it. Connor finds his marks by putting a simple ad in the classifieds. He knows that once he gets them in the apartment, they can’t escape. Amanda knew immediately that she would have to make her captor fall for her in order to survive. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.

Interesting

Amanda, Connor and Malcom.

I listened to the audio book. The narrators did a good job telling this authors story.

This is a new to me author and I was not expecting this story but I was intrigued and it kept me guessing. This is not a RH at least this part isn't it does end in a cliffhanger and is mostly told from Connor.

This is a dark twisted story. Connor who had it rough childhood because of a sick demented mother decided to use some of the ways he had been treated on women but a bit better and more profited way. He lures women who nobody would notice if they were missing trains them and sells them. Looking to get payback for the way he feels Malcolm mistreated him he finds Amanda and thinks she is a perfect match. Amanda who also had it rough from when she was young until now is in desperate need of a place and answers an ad. Soon she finds herself as one of Connor's pets. I found this intriguing and interesting. Amanda quickly comes up with a plan to try to save herself and the other women but Connor is not one to be easily manipulated. I was so enthralled with the story it kept me trying to figure out if what was happening part of her plan or was she falling for her capture. Then comes Malcolm the guy Connor is trying to pawn her to so he can seek his revenge and also have something on him. Turns out Malcolm isn't who he seems to everybody and there is a connection between him and Amanda. They both went to the same school. I look forward to the second part of this story to see what happens.

A twisted page-turner...

Clearly, this author knows how to draw the reader in … and then never let go! This was a fun, suspense-y, slightly twisted read with some blurred lines (at one point, I almost couldn’t tell who was manipulating who … almost).

And this book is the moment I added Bannister to my ‘faves’ list.

Fresh start vibes.
Abduction.
Trafficking.
Stockholm syndrome.
Edg!ng.
Scheming, st@|king, manipulating…

Overall, I couldn’t put this down and hope to be able to read more in this series.
4.5 stars.

LOVE…but then WTF it’s over?

This book totally checked my boxes! Good writing, great narration, Hot steam, and a female character who isn’t “strong” and “snarky” to the point I want to hit her with a brick!?! I don’t know why it’s so rare but I can’t tell you how nice it was to read about a woman in an extreme situation who acts in a realistic way! Also this author knows that the words feminine, strong, and bitch are not synonyms! I have a ton of respect for this author for not shying away from writing a bad guy as actually bad! In the real world if a guy kidnaps you chances are he won’t be a gentleman or have strict moral lines he won’t cross🙄. Also as much as we would like to think we would kill the guy with a spork then make a daringly dramatic escape….chances are that’s not how it would go down. More like you would say no, he would hit you, you would cry, then trade whatever sexual favor you could to keep that from happening again. Reality is dark and has much less snarky banter. The beauty of this book is it totally keeps it legit dark and morally reprehensible, but then cranks the heat up. It’s seriously everything I could have wanted! Morally fucked and high steam content!? I think I’ve found a new favorite author!
The only problem with the book is that what feels like completely out of the blue.. it’s just over! WTF!?!? I mean there HAS to be a book 2 ( I might actually take the time to read it I want to know what happens next so bad) but unfortunately there is no other books to be found on audible at this time! So overall awesome book, more than worth the credit, but maybe you should keep it in your wishlist for a bit . I seriously feel like I’m going to break out in hives I want book two so bad!

A Great Listen

This is the story of Amanda and Connor. Amanda is a girl down on her luck and really needs to find a place to live. However, she doesn't have much money and knows that finding someplace to live is going to be really hard. As luck would have it though she finds an ad for a place that she can afford. However, things go sideways and she finds herself taken and locked in the apartment by a very dangerous Connor. Conner makes his living doing very seedy things and has a past that is filled with darkness and trauma. The man never was shown what true love actually is. And yes, I know he is not a good guy but you can't help be fall for this guy as you listen to the book. However he does not think that he is worthy of love. However, he never saw Anna and the things she shows him coming. Keep in mind this is the first book in a series and you should expect to be left hanging. I really loved listening to this book. The Narrator's did an absolutely amazing job bringing this book to life.

Need the next book ASAP

This story has a lot of trigger warnings. Please make sure you read them to make sure it's your cup of tea. If you are less sensitive to triggers and like dark romance- this one will definitely get your blood pumping. It is told in a dual faction so you get all viewpoints of the characters. The narrators were fantastic. the story will have you hooked from the first chapter. Very spicy!!
