Publisher's summary
Allow your children to experience the adventure, freedom, and wonder of childhood with this practical guide that provides all the information, inspiration, and advice you need for creating a modern, quality homeschool education.
Inspired by the spirit of Henry David Thoreau—"All good things are wild and free"—mother of five Ainsley Arment founded Wild + Free. This growing online community of mothers and families want their children to receive a quality education at home by challenging their intellectual abilities and nurturing their sense of curiosity, joy, and awe—the essence of a positive childhood.
The homeschool approach of past generations is gone—including the stigma of socially awkward kids, conservative clothes, and a classroom setting replicated in the home. The Wild + Free movement is focused on a love of nature, reading great books, pursuing interests and hobbies, making the entire world a classroom, and prolonging the wonder of childhood, an appealing philosophy that is unpacked during this audiobook.
The Call of the Wild and Free offers advice, information, and positive encouragement for parents considering homeschooling, those currently in the trenches looking for inspiration, as well as parents, educators, and caregivers who want supplementary resources to enhance their kids’ traditional educations.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Story
In Free to Learn, developmental psychologist Peter Gray argues that our children, if free to pursue their own interests through play, will not only learn all they need to know but will do so with energy and passion. Children come into this world burning to learn, equipped with the curiosity, playfulness, and sociability to direct their own education. Yet we have squelched such instincts in a school model originally developed to indoctrinate, not to promote intellectual growth.

Weapons of Mass Instruction adds another chilling metaphor to the brief against conventional schooling.

Story
Parenting isn't rocket science, it's just brain surgery. And Dr. Joshua Straub has good news for you: You can do it! You don't need to do all the "right" things as a parent. Both science and the Bible show us that the most important thing we can provide for our kids is a place of emotional safety. In other words, the posture from which we parent matters infinitely more than the techniques of parenting. Emotional safety - more than any other factor - is scientifically linked to raising kids who live, love, and lead well.

I really enjoyed this book. With several quotes and examples in history, the author lays out a different way of viewing your child’s education. This was a great jumping off point for myself to fully leave behind the years I spent teaching public school and give myself permission to view my sons education in a more free mindset. Very well written and I highly recommend!

Trust that you know your child
The books was great, I wish the fact checking was better. The book references Helen Keller 3 times and twice in the book it states she was born blind and deaf. She was not born that way, it happened when she was a toddler. As a reader it makes me question references in the book as a whole.

I loved listening to this book, as I am preparing to begin my family’s homeschooling journey and leaving the public schools. It is full of practical advice as well as a ton of inspiration for your own homeschool! I only wish the author had narrated the book herself, I really feel like that makes a difference in the delivery. The book itself is wonderful, though!
