About this listen

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!

In this third volume, several months have passed, and Roland's two new tet-mates have become trained gunslingers. Eddie Dean has given up heroin, and Odetta's two selves have joined, becoming the stronger and more balanced personality of Susannah Dean. But while battling The Pusher in 1977 New York, Roland altered ka by saving the life of Jake Chambers, a boy who - in Roland's world - has already died. Now Roland and Jake exist in different worlds, but they are joined by the same madness: the paradox of double memories.

Roland, Susannah, and Eddie must draw Jake into Mid-World and then follow the Path of the Beam all the way to the Dark Tower. Along the way our tet stumbles into the ruined city of Lud, and are caught between the warring gangs of the Pubes and the Grays. The only way out of Lud is to wake Blaine the Mono, an insane train that has a passion for riddling, and for suicidal journeys.

Good narrator, good story, bad production

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, after warning them that the quality of the recording is not up to par with other recent audiobooks

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Tower III?

When Jake was kidnapped by Gasher and taken underground.

Which character – as performed by Frank Muller – was your favorite?

Gasher

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's too long for that

Any additional comments?

It is unfortunate that the recording features constant white noise in the background. Book II and Book IV also has this annoying distraction. The recording is pieced together in a distracting way. However, the story is good and the narrator is fantastic; otherwise, I would not keep going. At this point, I'm invested in this well above average book series.

Love this series

A great chapter in the story of the Dark Tower. Following Roland is interesting, and it keeps you guessing. The new revelations may not be startling, but they are exciting, and compelling you to listen further. Being that I know there are more entries into this world I do not begrudge the ending. If I had to wait for the next one I probably would be upset. Yet still it is a fitting ending for one such as King.

The four stars for performance was due to the narrator emphasizing the end of most, if not every, sentence. When you listen to it for a while you do not hear it, but upon any significant break from listening it is obvious, like when people pronounce the “H” in when, what, why, or where. You can look past it when necessary.

Besides that, the voices are great, they paint a picture of how each character behaves, looks, and even feels. Looking forward to the next book.

Great story yet again from Steven King

Great continuance to the other books. It's obvious this book was written during a less politically correct time.
