Insightful and memorable - Highly recommend

Steps (Commandments) are intensely lucid and directly applicable for dealmakers, and most careers. The author is conversational, engaging, and an illuminating instructor! Highly recommend!

Don't be afraid of Machiavelli, but...

heed the advice of Nietzsche, "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster." Jeff Cohen really distills the art of deal making while still remaining human. Well done!

I love this guy

Sight unseen, I will pay good money for anything this guy writes. Line for line, there is more real-world value here, more nuggets per minute, than anything of this genre I've seen. It is punchy, well-phrased, well taught (I interrupt my listenings, but he repeats the lessons in quick little summaries that drive the points home). At first I thought, oh wow, some brash frat boy who thinks he knows philosophy, urging being a tough guy while tossing off a few quotes of The Art of War. Yawn. But after a few minutes, I was hooked. There is substance here, and plenty of the quotes are terrific. This fellow did actually learn something from philosophers, unlike countless pretentious mediocrities. I also want to give credit for the brevity, as I read hundreds of popular books and despise the padding that goes on as a matter of course. Bravo, someone with the guts to say it sharply and not labor to fit some big bloated (and overpriced) format. As a sample, let me point to his able tutoring on the tempo and basic structure of "the dance" of deals -- offer, counter, close (with variations based on strategy: specific ways to speed things up or cool them down, and reasons for doing so). Good, clean stuff, good contracting tactics, with humor and enough brashness without going over the top. Yeah, OK, it is probably a bit of a resume for him, tooting his horn, but not annoyingly so, and always in service of a lesson or idea. And what book ISN'T a resume in some sense for its author? I have no problem with the tone or tempo -- it all fits the subject like a glove.

An ABSOLUTE MUST!!

Absolutely a must! I was so inspired by this book. I am 50 years old, I have read a lot of books, this one that I just listen to amazed me; very easy to understand, clear and to the point, no holds bar just the truth. If ever you need a book to listen to or read in regards to business this is the ONE, should be mandatory elementary school reading. If kids could learn this before they get out there and start swinging not understanding the basics of business the art of the deal they’re going to get beat up more than they would if they had started with this book. Business reflects life life reflects business I have already put into motion these commandments into my every day personal life, listen or read for yourself, and you will understand; exactly what I mean. I will listen to this book many times over

Excellent book that is a unique blend of humor, principles and life changing advice

Max wrote a book!

I was skeptical at first when I bought this book for three reasons:

1. Jeff is a lawyer and normally lawyers are very dry, boring or full of themselves.
2. Jeff was a child star that “disappeared” from existence.
3. Commandments seemed a bit heavy of a topic.

Needless to say I was wrong to assume on all three.

This very conversational book does a great job weaving humor, sales and industry survival advice into organized and warm language. This book kept me engaged the entire audiobook.

I really love the chapter summaries that sum up “where we are so far” and then recaps all commandments so far.

I also like the inclusions of practical advice Jeff uses in his life to “transition” from “work to home” and “deal to deal”. To “running with the devil” to relaxing.

I would highly recommend this book read in his own voice.
