Publisher's summary

Stylist Jessica Champlin knows it takes more than a darling goldendoodle to save a marriage. She and her ex-husband, investigative journalist Sebastian Hess, had too many irreconcilable differences for even their beloved dog Baxter to heal. So they've agreed to joint custody, and life has settled into a prickly normalcy.

But when Baxter heroically rescues a child and the video footage goes viral, Jess and Sebastian are thrown together again, and her life takes some very unexpected twists. The line of dogwear she creates becomes wildly successful, and suddenly she's in the spotlight with everyone watching - the press, the new guy she's seeing, Sebastian, and the past she never imagined she would face again. Soon there's only one person by her side - and it's the person she least expected. She's willing to open up to a new normal - just as long as Baxter approves.

What a nice surprise

I chose this book because of the narrator. I just love Therese Plummer's narration of books. But the book itself was a real treat. If you are a dog lover you will really enjoy it. The story was so up to date, what with the way the internet takes over the world. I would certainly recommend this book.

Stretches out the angst a bit, but a pleasant read

Jessica overinflates how bad the mistakes in her past were -- and her angst over that shame is what drives the story. Her dread that the truth might come out, and her desperation to share in the love the world is heaping onto her dog, goes on too long and gets a bit tired -- but all in all it was a pleasant book to listen to.

I like Sebastian, Gavin and Billy. I think the characters were well constructed. Not complex, but more than one dimensional.

Baxter is the best written character in the book. As well he should be.

Laura Caldwell is not an important writer, but pleasant.

New Author to Enjoy

Therese Plummer may be my favorite narrator, to the point that I choose books for her narration, even if I don’t know the author. This selection was one of those and I couldn’t have been more pleased. I hope to find more of this author-narrator combination for future listening enjoyment.

Everyone should experience the love of a dog!!

An adorable example of how dogs show love, help bring people together and make the world a better place!! The one thing that was surprising to me was that Baxter liked the boyfriend. Dogs are usually the best judges of character. Then again, we all get sucked in now and again. This was the perfect listen to avoid the noise of what is going on in our world today! Read this book and head to your nearest shelter or look into the breed specific rescues (make sure it is a not for profit ie .org and not .com) if you are particular and bring home your new best friend!! I did and my life is so much better for it.
