About this listen

It starts out as a bet.

A way to forget about my latest in a string of bad relationships and move on. I know it's a mistake. My head and heart are just not into the game. Especially when I have a terrible knack for picking the wrong men.

Then I see him.

The gorgeous man in the dark suit, drowning his sorrows in a glass of scotch is only supposed to be one night of fun. No strings. Zero expectations. No one gets hurt.

And when I wake up alone the next morning, it appears I've gotten everything I was after. That is until I find the shiny gold cuff links he left behind. Oh, and discover that he's my new boss.

But with our ugly pasts still heavy on our shoulders, it should be easy to stay away from each other. To be one hundred percent professional. To ignore the way his heated glances set my skin ablaze, even from across the room. Yep. Impervious is my new middle name. Even if tempting is his...

J Saman is one of my favorite authors so I'm trying to go through her older books. Thrilled to see some of these in the plus catalog. I've briefly met some of these characters in future books so it's fun to read their stories.
Haley and Jonah are so good together! Neither looking for more than casual, love sneaks up on them. Jonah is so extra sweet, always saying and doing the perfect thing. Haley is super understanding of his past and allows him to feel without judgment. So good!
Both narrators were new to me and I enjoyed their performances. They didn't necessarily wow me but absolutely nothing negative to say either.

great start to the series

There's more hot to cold back to hot and then revisiting cold than what's necessary. Hallie is so full of self loathing, zero confidence until a brief ½ chapter in the beginning and towards the end, The amount of mixed messages, back and forth signals is so overbearing that it ruined any bit of a HEA. To the point I am glad my world doesn't consist of a FMC like her.

Great storyline. Also came with some suspense that I didn't expect. I am really loving all of Julia's stories. She is so talented!

Story:7/10
Spice: 3/5
Spice Hierarchy: Open Door
Narration: 3/5

Good narration. The story was just ok to me. It seemed really rushed. I liked the idea is this one. But I felt like it was too indecisive. “We can’t be together, I don’t want to be together, we are together”. Maybe that was supposed to be part of the forbidden aspect but I don’t feel it played out that way on page.

The audio is not synced with the story. And there are narration parts that are not in the book as well as written parts that are not narrated.

I liked the idea

Loved from start to finish. Loveable characters. Surprising plot. Not overly spicy: just right. Such a good read.

This was a happy surprise listen for me. I enjoyed the overall story and depth of characters and their growth throughout the story. Both were grieving/healing from lost relationships (he is a widower and she was in a toxic relationship with a man who ended up being a criminal) and they both took a chance at something that started as a one night stand but ended up being a beautiful relationship that helped them heal from their pasts. Loved it!

Just right

There were parts that were moved around in the same chapter as the book and I kind of liked how they moved it around in the audiobook, it made it flow better than the actual book

I loved it

I agree with the other reviewer, it’s boring. Very slow moving and lackluster. I actually felt like the dialogue was “blah blah blah…” I don’t typically give very negative reviews, I try to find the good. In this case the narrators did a great job!Otherwise 3/5 and I won’t be going on to the next book

5⭐️ 3🌶 5🎙

The Edge of Temptation by J. Saman was an emotional yet sweet read. It was the right blend of playful and serious. I absolutely loved Halle and Jonah. They were both going through things that made them avoid relationships when a night at a bar made them give a one-night stand a chance. Then fate kept pulling them together.

Jonah's internal struggle and heartbreak were conveyed so well that I was heartbroken and conflicted along with him. Halle brought life and purpose to his life again and made him question everything. One thing is certain: Jonah, without a doubt, loves deeply and completely.

Halle had nearly given up on love and blamed herself for terrible exes. Jonah showed her what love and passion were and helped her face her fears and find her strength. She had a real badass moment toward the end that really showed her growth and newfound self-assuredness. 👏

Amy Melissa Bentley and Sean Hardisty did a great job narrating. I was immersed in their storytelling and flew through the audiobook.
