About this listen

"The world ended two days after I ran away from home. Not my world, The world. But it wasn’t my fault. I swear."

Luke Sinclair is left alone in an empty world where almost everyone has died. After spending two years searching out the few remaining people, he discovers Brie Osborn and her fellow survivors. But at 18, he isn’t ready to settle down, no matter how pretty the girl is. However, after discovering three children trapped in an evil situation, he reluctantly accepts the responsibility of saving them. Unfortunately, Brie would be vital to his success.

Two teenagers and three children being chased by evil men in a world gone mad. A world without anything that they had come to depend upon. Nothing works as it should. There is no authority to turn to. Only two people doing the right thing.

Sometimes, heroism is forced on a person. How they accept that responsibility can determine everything. They soon discover a world without heroes is not a world worth having.

The first book was better

~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book.~

Unfortunately, unlike the first book, this book has WAY too much focus on finding love. I liked the first book because it was about survival. Romance was there, but it was a side plot. If you like romance in the post-apocalypse, you might like this more than I did. If it wasn’t about teenagers, I might have been more okay with the romance, but I’m not that into books about teens falling in love. Don’t get me wrong, there is survival, but there is such a focus on how they are attracted to each other and how they already fell in love after just meeting.

Jordan W Hopkins continues to do a good job narrating.

Decent

This whole series is just decent. Not great and not terrible. Kind of lazy writing.

Low volume

I really liked the story. It seemed that the volume for this story was lower than others. I kept trying to turn it up. Also the fact that I would get lost in who was telling their part of the story. Everyone sounded the same. No effort to try and distinguish between characters made it hard to understand. I kept backing it up to see who it was. The story was good and I wouldn’t mind listening to more if it was changed up a bit.

good story and performance

This is another variation on the end-of-the-world theme. Understanding that this is a fantasy book, the story is a bit too fantastical - good concept but not very believable. I had a hard time feeling empathy for the hero. The performance was good.
