Publisher's summary

“If you love historical drama…then look no further.” —Boston Globe

The magnificent sequel to A Crowning Mercy, Fallen Angels reunites New York Times bestseller Bernard Cornwell—whom the Washington Post calls, “perhaps the greatest writer of historical adventure novels today”—with co-author Susannah Kells for a breathtaking story brimming with excitement, intrigue, danger, and passion. A tale that ranges from the splendor of a grand English estate to the streets of revolutionary Paris during France’s Reign of Terror, Fallen Angels is a novel that will equally delight followers of Cornwell’s Richard Sharpe, Nathaniel Starbuck, and other bestselling series as well as listeners who love the sweeping historical dramas of Diana Gabaldon and Sharon Kay Penman.

a historical thriller romance

I loved this novel that was originally written by Susanne Kells. This is not like the typical novels by her husband Bernard Cornwell. Though there are some violent scenes, it's free of the battle obsession that Cornwell can get into. It's a very dramatic woman's story but told in an omniscient point of view with lots of mystery, twists and turns, and with a satisfying ending.

Intrigue among the characters

The story line is excellent. Only downside is that a follow up story has not been published.

Love this book!

I am disappointed there is not a sequel. The writer kept me guessing right up to the end of the book. I would have loved to have a little more historic contact about the French Revolution, though.

Loooved this book!!

Absolutely loved this book as much as the first one. Twists and turns galore and a wonderful love story to boot. Well written and well narrated. Highly recommended!

Predictable, boring sequel

It was just a pretty weak romance story, a poor followup to the predecessor. Every twist/turn was entirely predictable, and the plot was just an insipid vehicle to carry the unsurprising love story.

Nice departure from his usual style

I liked the overall feel of the story and the perspective from the female protagonist. Great love story!

Meh…

Not typical Cornwall. Loved all his others. A bit too confusing at the beginning because I didn’t realize that this Campion wasn’t the same as in the previous book which was also just so-so.

Adventure/Thriller

The Cornwell/Kell’s books are distinctly apart from Cornwell’s historical fiction. Closer to the James Bond adventures; further from reality. But fun nonetheless.

Purchased because I love BC but...

I'm a big fan of Bernard Cornwell. I decided to try this series of books because I enjoy his writing. Although his name is very prominent on the book's cover, his writing style is not evident. This reminded me more of the Highlander series, but with less quality historical tie-in. I had to keep looking up the French revolution and trying to decide how far away into conspiracy theories I was willing to go for a story. I did not finish this book, and that is very rare for me. That said, someone who likes wild romantic *sort of* historical fiction will probably enjoy this, maybe. My low rating for this book primarily comes from a huge gap between my expectations and what was delivered.

This book is awful terrible disappointment from Bernard Cromwell

This book was awful. I’ve read 25 Bernard Cromwell books and loved everyone except this one. I don’t know what happened to him. It was more like a romantic fantasy than an adventure book. Sorry.
