Publisher's summary

A thrilling, unforgettable crime novel about three brothers who became Sweden's most wanted criminals, inspired by the unbelievable true story

How does a child become a criminal? How does a father lose a son?

An epic crime novel with the excitement of Jo Nesbo's Headhunters and the narrative depth of We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Father is inspired by the extraordinary true story of three brothers who committed 10 audacious bank robberies in Sweden over the course of just two years.

None had committed a crime before. All were under 24 years old. When their incredible spree had come to an end amid the glare of the international media, all of them would be changed forever as individuals and as a family.

This intoxicating, heartbreaking thriller tells the story of how three boys are transformed over the course of their lives from innocent children to the most wanted criminals in Sweden. And of the man who made them that way: their father.

Outstanding narrator!

Great story, even greater narration! The way in which he read the part of the father was appropriately terrifying at exactly the right moments.

Great based-on-reality drama and storytelling.

Had a hard time getting into it, but by midway I found excuses to listen. Fascinating story of connection, human nature and violence.

I want to give the narration performance one higher mark - his energy, voice, and multiple accents were wonderful, but the repeated mispronunciation of asphalt (why??) and Sweden-cebtric words like Lucia, and Uppsala were a bummer.

Twisting suspense

I loved this book! There were a few times I was sure about what would happen next, and it still pulled me along. The turning point at the middle was completely astonishing. Can’t wait to start the next in the series!
