About this listen
In The First Assistant, Clare Naylor and Mimi Hare have again joined forces to take a wry and hilarious look at the wheeling, dealing, schmoozing, and snubbing that make Hollywood the cutthroat capital of the world. Listeners are hungry for more, and The First Assistant is just the romp into the red-carpet world that they crave.
Clare Naylor is the author of five previous novels, including Love: A User's Guide and Dog Handling. Mimi Hare was director of development for a Hollywood production company, where she worked on such feature films as Jerry McGuire and As Good As It Gets. Now both authors are busy writing screenplays for a range of studios and production companies, including Miramax and Disney. Both live and work in London.

Story
Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends in months. Sex? Seems like a lot of effort. Even cooking dinner takes far too much planning. Sasha has hit a wall. Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga, and find peace, she heads to the seaside resort she loved as a child. But it’s the off season, the hotel is in a dilapidated shambles, and she has to share the beach with the only other occupant: a grumpy guy named Finn.

Ella Warren loves her job working for celebrity news magazine The Life as an undercover reporter. Her evenings are spent using her alias to discreetly attend red carpet events, nightclubs, and Hollywood hotspots like the fabulous Chateau Marmont, where her eyes are always peeled for the next big celebrity story. When Ella's new Devil Wears Prada-type boss starts a not-so-friendly competition among the reporters to find an exclusive story or be fired, the stakes are higher than ever.

Heather Wells rocks! Or, at least, she did. That was before she left the pop-idol life behind after she gained a dress size or two - and lost a boyfriend, a recording contract, and her life savings (when Mom took the money and ran off to Argentina). Now that the glamour and glory days of endless mall appearances are in the past, Heather's perfectly happy with her new size 12 shape (the average for the American woman!) and her new job as an assistant dorm director at one of New York's top colleges.

To Louisa Tanner, Jack Doyle is perfect - heart surgeon, loving single father, and best friend a girl could have - so it's no surprise when he's tapped as the next Mister Perfect for the reality dating series Marrying Mister Perfect. But watching her secret crush romancing gorgeous women on national television? That flat out sucks - even if he will never see her as more than a pal.

But she's also turning 30, chronically single, and faced with serving as maid of honor at her younger sister's wedding. Josephine McMaster is pretty and smart, but very much a klutzy mess. Finally, at 26, she may have actually lost the dreaded 'McMaster the Disaster' nickname that has followed her around her whole life. Josie's quite content to be single, much to her mother's disappointment. So when a bizarre contest is announced where a socialite is holding a lottery to pick her bridesmaids (and rake in a little extra cash), she can't roll her eyes fast enough, even if it does mean meeting Jake Hall.

Great story! Looking for more!
Like the reader from the first book better. This one was dry and sarcastic the whole book.

Enjoyed the sequel to the 2nd Assistant
Lizzie continues on her stumbling road to sucess. Has the things that make a book good, supportive friends, a plot twist and a happy ending. Great summertime book.

Loved it!
After just finishing The Second Assistant I felt the need to find out what happened to Lizzie next. I'm so glad as I liked the first, I loved the second. It was wittier, had a better pace and the plot was more developed. It's a winner of a summer read - fun, exciting and completely insane.

Way too ridiculous

Much better than Second Assistant
This book was much more entertaining than the first book, Second Assistant (but helps to read it before reading this one). The story gave a deeper insight into celebrities and movie making.
Narrator for this book made the book very enjoyable (again, better than the first book). This is the second book I've listened to narrated by Shelly Frasier, and I chose this book in great part because of her. She does a great job with the character voices without making it overly cheesy, especially with male voices.

Hilarious
This book and narrator had me laughing the whole way through. What absurdities there are in Hollywood, but very funny. I had to get used to the narrator's flat voice, but it really does suit the character. Her Southern leading man accent is dead on and she makes him come to life. There is a lot of bad language in this and some scenes you would not want to listen to without headphones or privacy.

Loved It!
First off, this is a sequel to the Second Assistant. Make sure you get that first. But what I really enjoyed about this book was the narrator. She was GREAT! Such a pleasure to listen to, she also did all of the accents really good.
I laughed out loud a couple of times.
I highly recommend it.
