Publisher's summary

When a corrupt think tank, The Foundation for a New America, enlists a Taiwanese terrorist to bomb a World Trade Organization conference, the US and China are put on the path to war.

Star journalist Jack Emery is pulled into a story far more dangerous than he could have imagined. Because the Foundation's deputy director, the ruthless Michelle Dominique, recognizes that whoever controls the message controls the world. And she will take control, no matter the price.

Enter Jack's boss, Ernest McDowell, owner and chairman of the largest media empire on the planet. In the midst of political upheaval, EMCorp is about to become the final play in the Foundation's plan. When Dominique traps the EMCorp owner in her web, Jack's the only one left to expose the conspiracy before it's too late.

As the world powers smash each other against the anvil of Taiwan, Jack will risk everything to battle the Foundation and prevent them from taking control amid the devastation of a global war.

The Fifth Estate in the Turmoil of Japan and China

Sometimes it feels like you are reading today’s headlines. A corrupt think tank, political unrest, using the internet to bring down China. And the one who can stop the far-right wing conspiracy is a veteran journalist. I am not sure that the veterans in the media are the ones who can save us from conspiracies, but it does make a good read for a first novel. Like many first novels it lacks in god character development and continuity, but it shows us what a new author might become. Worth the read and worth going to the next novel by Vincent.

Who can stop the Foundation

Jack Emery is a journalist thrust into a race against time, as an underground US political power tries to take control of the country, by starting a war in China. This is a good conspiracy book, although some of the actions of the Foundation are hard to believe.

Not read/listened to anything by the author before , but have listened to a lot of Jeffrey Kaffer. As usual he does a good job bringing the story to life and keeps the interest going.

Scary to think about this actually happening

This book is a compelling read. It's scary to think about. When I finished all I could do was look for the next book. The only problem is it's not on audible or Kindle
Don't pass this one up.

First use of Audible format, not my favorite.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Speaking about the format (audible), I found it difficult to follow the story development. I would recommend this to people who are attuned to listening for long periods of time. Unfortunately, I am not.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The story and characters were well developed judging from the time portion that I dedicated to this book. I did not complete this book as I had difficulty listening in a continuum sufficient to follow the complete story. .

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

I found his reading style not to my liking, he reads with a cadence that is difficult for me to discern the character changes and nuances. Long periods of listening would tire me and I would have to begin listening again.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Corporate control

Any additional comments?

I read (listened) to this book at the behest of the author and my inability to relate to an audible format should not be taken as a reflection of the work, rather my inability to relate to this format.

The Foundation

This is an enjoyable fast paced political thriller.Jack Emery is a journalist who seems to do more intellegence work, than writing. He is getting divorced and is usually drunk. When a terrorist attack affects his life,he goes to major pains to find the culprits.Jeffery Kafer is a great narrator for this book.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Intriguing Plot

An intriguing plot with a little bit of everything - politics, murder, war, torture, kidnapping, and sex. Would have enjoyed more development of character motivations and narration that didn't seem so rushed (slowed it down and it was okay).

Another conspiracy theory action thriller

A reporter battles against a radical organization working to drive the US into war with China. It includes mass casualty terrorism, murder of influential citizens, blackmail, and efforts to take control of Congress. It is filled with action from the US to China. There are some errors like leaving the Chinese embassy in the US after war with China was declared. This story plays to those that are prone to believe conspiracy theories, and distrust our own government.

Fun Thriller

The Foundation by Steve P. Vincent is the first book in the Jack Emery series. The story was interesting, well written and an excellent fast paced thriller. A very enjoyable read. Who doesn't love an action and conspiracy story? The audio book was my first and I am totally hooked. The narration is great and the suspense builds as well as with a written copy. I enjoyed the Jack Emery series so much I am reading them all and will be starting the Mitch Herron series also by Steve P. Vincent shortly. I was lucky enough to receive this audio book from the author himself, who, by the way is not only a good writer but a very nice guy. The Foundation was the perfect book to try an audio book. The audio book is excellent and the story in engaging. Give this one a try. Thank you Steve Vincent.

Unbelievable Thriller

The author of this story is new to me, while the narrator is one of my favorite male narrators for romance and action stories. Parts of this book I absolutely loved and other parts not so much. My review is not a synopsis of the book, rather my opinion of it. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher. I think one of the biggest unrealistic elements of the story was the power of the foundation, and the extents they would go to.
