About this listen

He's the best man...and that's the problem.

Kristen Petersen is perfectly fine. She has friends she'd fight to the death for and the very best dog in the world: Stuntman Mike. In fact, everything's calm in the world of Kristen, until she starts to plan her best friend's wedding and meets the best man, Josh Copeland.

Josh is funny, sexy, stands up to her sarcasm, and is always one snack ahead of her hangry. Even Stuntman Mike adores him. But he wants a big family, and Kristen knows children are probably not a part of her future.

She's sure he'd be better off with someone else, someone who can give him everything he wants, so Kristen keeps him at arm's length: in the Friend Zone. But as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to resist falling for the man who seems to be everything she's not allowed to have....

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart and a lot of sass.

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren, Helen Hoang, Sally Thorne, Jo Watson and Sophie Kinsella.

Critic reviews

"Harnessing sass, heartfelt struggle and unapologetic sexuality, Jimenez's debut is as hysterical as it is tear-jerking." (Publishers Weekly)

Awful Female Narrator, Exhausting Female Character

This was one of the worst narrators I’ve heard in a LONG time. The woman voicing the FMC POV was terrible. Her vocal tone was a mix between uptight professional newsreader and teenage cheerleader; it was weird and off putting. However when she voiced the male character it was even worse.
As for the writing, there was a lot of heart in this story but ultimately it was just exhausting. The FMC has created a story in her head and will not have a conversation, or accept any other information to sway her perspective. It is soooo tiring to endlessly read about a person determined to self sabotage at all costs. There wasn’t enough respite in the writing, bad things happened, more bad things happened, more bad things happened, more bad things happened. There wasn’t much banter, and the little moments of happiness didn’t ring true enough to carry through the bad times. The characters felt sort of flat and when the HEA finally came it didn’t feel joyous because there had just been too much ‘bad things’.
This felt like a first book, and I’m glad to have read other books by Abby Jimenez, so I know she can write great books.

LOVEDDDDD

Okay, I just found another author I want to stalk! 😂💪
Jimenez wrote a great story about heroes you can't help but love and a dilemma that would break your heart. She managed to combine humor with real-life struggles, wonderful characters (even the secondary ones 😍), sexual tension, a gentleman hero (I wish my husband would take care of me like him during period cramps), a sarcastic heroine (although a bit annoying) and… a dog! 🥰
I loved the writing style and the plot pace, I laughed out loud, I cried out loud and I was definitely left with a taste for more… so much so, that I had to purchase the Hebrew translated edition as well, to let my sisters and mother read and fall in love with it with me. 💙💙💙

📚 "I’d never met a woman like you before. You told me to go to hell and made me look forward to the trip." 📚

Despite that, there were also things that didn't work for me: especially the heroine. I still haven't decided what I think about her… 🙈
Josh described her several times as a light and drama-free girl, but Kristen's life is actually one big drama! (with her boyfriend, her mother, her career… and not to mention her health condition). She had kept such a big secret from him, yet when Josh found out, he reacted like a fairy tale prince and she became even more dramatic. 🤦‍♀️😬
Plus, Josh was a bit too perfect and the ending felt too rushed… still, I totally recommend this book, which reminded me that even in books with a happy ending, not everyone gets to have happily ever after, so we should cherish every moment with the people we love. ❤️

Really bad narrator!

Ok, the book was cute enough... but the female narrator was one of the worst I have experienced!

no idea what the high ratings are based on

waste of time and money. melodramatic storyline, simplistic tropes and characters, feels like it was written by a13 yr old.
