Publisher's summary

Charlie Howard isn’t only a part-time crime writer and part-time thief; he’s also a magician. For his next trick, he’ll relieve Josh Masters, the famous illusionist vying for the affections of Charlie’s friend Victoria, of $60,000 in casino chips stashed in his hotel safe. Revenge would be sweet - if there weren’t a dead redhead floating in Masters’ bathtub and if Masters hadn’t just disappeared in a puff of smoke after cheating at roulette. Convinced that Charlie was in on the scam, the casino’s owners give him an impossible mission: either pull off an elaborate heist to reimburse the house for every dollar his “accomplice” made off with, or enjoy a one-way trip into the desert.

Fun Story

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas?

I enjoyed the main character's sharp wit and sarcasm throughout the story despite the things that were happening to him.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Simon Vance's style. Also enjoyed Safe House by Chris Ewan. His pace is good without feeling rushed. He performs women's voices well without sounding forced. He is a little weak when doing American accented characters.

Any additional comments?

It was a fun story, not a masterpiece.I enjoyed the twists and turns and how all the loose ends come together at the end. I would read another book in this series because the main character is so likable.

I will read more of these

This was humorous with exciting moments. I enjoyed him getting out of his scrapes. I would read more by this author. I have also read his Amsterdam story and found it more deftly plotted, but the Vegas story is more fun.

Chatty with a too convenient plotting.

If this bit of dialogue sounds ok then you'll enjoy this book; "Darling, we're British and we're charming. The regular laws of the world simply don't apply to us. Let's dash off on another irresponsible adventure." That's the tone you need to accept or should I say endure to get through this one.
The narration by Simon Vance, as always: perfect.

Claustrophobic

Much like Groundhog Day with failure after failure after failure after failure mostly within a high rise in the middle of the desert. The bit with the body in the boot was less confining. At least there wasn’t a single “smile that didn’t reach…” Though, at the end of a paragraph it’s still an okay story.

Funny, Engaging & a Delight to the Ear

What did you love best about The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas?

I loved the wit & dry humor of the author, delivered impeccably by the narrator. The main character's descriptions were thoroughly entertaining.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

He captured the essence of Charlie & delivered it. Since I knew that he was also the narrator of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, I was impressed with his amazing performance in this novel. He made the story & the characters come to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a lot!

Any additional comments?

This is a great light read - it's not fluff, but it's fun.

You Have To Live Charlie

I have been reading the installments in order and this is the best "Good Thiefs Guide" so far. The characters are well done and both Charlie and Victoria are well advanced in this installment. The other quality I like about this book is you really don't figure things out till the very end...and even then, you need Charlie's help to understand it all.... Well done!

From

The last one to this one to the next one! I love them! Chris Ewen is an extremely FUN writer! Top ten favorites! While I love intense edge of your seat stories, I love these as they add a whole added level of fun and levity not found in the typical genre! Love them!

Entertaining

I’ve found another author to follow in Chris Ewan. I enjoyed the witty British protagonist and the narrator nailed the part, sounding like Mr Peabody from the Mr Peabody and Sherman animated TV series, which was part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Well done, funny and left me wanting more. I will look for more from both Chris Ewan and Simon Vance.

OUTSTANDING!

THIS POOR THIEF CAN GET INTO MORE TROUBLE BY BEING COMPLETELY ABOVE
BOARD. HE IS A MAGNET FOR TROUBLE, THANK GOODNESS HE HAS A WONDERFUL LINE OF PATTER, AND THINKS FAST ON HIS FEET. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS NEW AUTHOR, TO ME, AND WILL CHECK HIS OTHER BOOKS OUT. A WONDERFUL WHO DUN-NIT, GREAT JOB CHRIS EWAN, AS NOT TOO BRITISH AND I COULD UNDERSTAND HIM WITHOUT STRAINING TO DO SO. I LAUGHED AT HIS MANY DRY JOKES AND URGE YOU TO GIVE HIM TRY. WELL WORTH THE CREDIT. MAGIC IS THE NAME OF THE GAME.
