Publisher's summary

After a particularly bad streak of luck in Vegas, Charlie has retreated to Venice, having vowed to give up a life of crime to write crime fiction full-time. But inspiration has yet to strike. And to make matters worse, Charlie's agent, Victoria, shows up at his door just as his prized first edition of The Maltese Falcon flies out the window with a femme-fatale burglar. Blackmailed into committing a dastardly crime in order to get his book back, Charlie is catapulted into yet another adventure, this one even more explosive than the last.

These are really fun escapism books and "Venice" is one of the best in the series.

Another fun read from Chris Ewan

Narrator, Simon Vance didn’t disappoint, either, even if his portrayal of an alluring Italian female thief sounded more like a little old man. I enjoyed the rest too much to care.

Captivating and very entertaining

I am a fan of Chris Ewan's Good Thief series. The first two were the best, I would start with those: Amsterdam and Paris, in that order.

While not as good as the others, it does not disappoint.

The crazy situations Charlie gets into become less plausible after three books in a row, especially getting into awkward situations that are quite similar.

In the end,a good listen.

Honor among thieves, with humor

Charlie is a good thief but a bad experience in Vegas has sent him to Venice to write his detective stories. He's promised his agent, Victoria, to stay on the straight and narrow. Then he gets a visit by a beautiful burglar who has taken his first edition MALTESE FALCON. To get his book back, she sends him on a strange mission. Then all the troubles really begin.

The book is just plain fun to read. The writing is excellent, with the best descriptions of people, places and things that I've read in a while. The mystery intrigues with humor galore. This is the first one I've read in this series, though it is the fourth book. Will go back and read them all now. Listened to this in Audible, which added a lot to my enjoyment.

Fun read and ready for the next

The thief is such a unique and clever character. I enjoyed his thoughts about himself and laughed several times throughout the novel

Best Entry Yet

I throughly enjoyed this installment of The Good Thiefs Guide series. There is humor, plot twists and you don't see the end coming. The narration is excellent. If you like this series, you will like this installment.

passion for Venice

Englishman, Charlie finds comfort in Venice, while writing crime novels after shedding his former criminal life.
Charlie is superstitious and when his first edition of The Maltese Falcon is stolen, he and his editor Victoria are blackmailed back into the world of Charlies old life.
Gambling, and steeling where stakes are high but highly predictable - IMO, this story has an old 1970's feel
