Publisher's summary

Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Mae Whitman narrates this backpacking adventure unlike any other from the brilliant and witty mind of Ginny Hogan. Alice's so-called "journey" takes an unexpected turn that’s less about trails and more about what happens when you realize that people can know how to test water for uranium and still have social anxiety.

If you've ever believed that achieving a lofty goal would somehow untangle the complexities of your life, The Great Indoors is a hilarious reminder that sometimes the best adventures happen right at home.

Good nothing outstanding

A walk through the life of sobriety and the temptations that call to take another drink while trying to think outside the box.

Funny, amusing

I wish this book was longer. It was amusing and relatable listening to the protagonist flail and fail and eventually realize that’s all life is…trying again and again. Very enjoyable listen.

captivating beginning

I did enjoy the beginning and middle part of the story the end was disappointing and some sections through the middle were rather nasty and unnecessary. The beginning is great captivating and somewhat funny but by the end the writer gets rather annoying and it became increasingly difficult to continue. It's disappointing she didn't go through with her pla , that is a follow-up book I would listen to.

Loved this adventure into the world of hiking!

This is a delightful and very funny story. Mae Whitman is perfect as the narrator! I loved the struggles of this New Yorker who thinks it will be fun to hike for three months on the Pacific Crest Trail. Such a fun listen! Highly recommended if you like to laugh.

Entertaining and thoughtful journey of self-discovery

This is a delightful and funny yet introspective look into a young woman's journey of self-discovery. It has a refreshing plot that distinguishes it from formulaic romantic comedies. A good listen all around!

Get out of your own way

I really like this book because you can almost put yourself in Alice's shoes. You are probably not preparing to go on a big hike but we can all relate to this story.
