Not a 5 star

The story is intriguing but kind of predictable. The narration was hard for me to get through. A lot of “spitting lisping” through the words. Perhaps she’s learning to do different accents. With all the male characters, perhaps it would have been easier having a male narrator. To each his own - sounds like some folks really liked it.

Sweet Historical Romance

I seem to be on a WWII kick lately. What I loved about this story is the longer time frame. The story goes from when the hero was a teen boy, to when his daughter is 2 yrs old, till 25 or so years later. It also covers several locations overseas and finally in America.
The story is filled with horrific scenes and touching moments. Fragile memories to a bright future. Total isolation to a large family uniquely built by friends, coworkers, and marriage.
The narration was powerful! It was almost whispered in parts then practically screaming in others. Various accents make this audiobook seem very real. Except for the sounds of families begging for their lives, and the blast of gunfire, and the smell of death, This was written very much like a movie and I could picture the whole story quite vividly.
