great start for the kin
This is a slow burn, but that's perfect for introducing lore for the votann. characters are likable, dark and fun moments to be had. Great book!

Excited for more
Really really slow start, but just awesome conclusion, I have a faction that I can actually root for now. Did not expect it to be as touching of a story as it turned out to be. Also va did a great job but it looks like this is her first time narrating 40k and it just solidly shows, but again still did great for a first go.

Space Dwarves
Learning more about how the Votann operate as a faction/race was really nice. Very befitting for Dwarves in a setting like this. It was also nice to see how they interact with some of the other factions/races of the Galaxy, especially the Imperium where sometimes they are allies and sometimes not so much. I like how the Votann seem to operate in a much more Bureacratic sense compared to the Imperium. Where the Imperium seems to operate more like a Fuedal Empire the Votann seem to operate more like a large Corporate conglomerate in a lot of ways with board members, executives, and unions (unions being the guilds). Overall, from a lore perspective, I think this added quite a lot and has improved my enjoyment of the faction as someone who plays them on Tabletop.
The voice acting leaves a lot to be desired, but isn't offensively bad. There were more than a few times I'd be confused as to which character is talking and I had to go back and re-listen, but this could just be a skill issue on my part possibly.
The story itself seemed kind of ok. Not bad, but not great. It started off very interestingly with a group of Hearnkyn harvesting a Tyranid bio ship and the ensuing chaos of such an endeavor being tied in with the prolouge. The story after felt kind of slow, but I'm not sure if that's on purpose because the Votann themselves are known for doing things slowly and methodically over a long time. If it is on purpose, I can't tell, but regardless the story is somewhat slow a lot of the time, wether someone enjoys that or not is personal preference. The dichotomy of Kyn politics is quite enjoyable but drags somewhat from time to time and could stand to be shorter (no pun intended). The characterization I think is very good for an interpretation of Dwarves overall. Some sequences of events in the writing felt rushed and were confusing at times, but not so much that I'd lose track of what's going on. Overall, not bad, but needs a bit more polish.
Good book. If you like Space Dwarves, give it a listen, or preferably just read it yourself.

its a factions first book
the first part of the book is very slow and unguided. it spends a lot of time establishing the kin and their society, and while I like this from a lore perspective, I can't deny it feels more like a codex than a standalone book. The main plot doesn't kick in until about a third to halfway through. From that point to just before the end it's good. interesting, intense, and entertaining, but the ending was so so rushed. The falling action was almost entirely consolidated to the epilogue, which was very underwhelming. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I dont think id listen to it again. As for the narration, she was good, but the sound mixing was off. some lines were way louder than others and there was a bit of choppiness.

Took em long enough
It’s fine, but for how long it took them to make this, I was hoping for more. It introduces you to a character for one of the great leagues, shows you the relationship the kin have towards each other, and sets up a future plot.

Not bad not great
It just felt like a pretty generic story that gave little story or real world building to the Votann faction. First 3/4 of the book were very slow and the last 1/4 had an alright climax with some corny moments. Any non Imperium factions always get subpar books so they are consistent in that much.
