Publisher's summary

The New English Standard Version translation is founded on the belief that the words of the Bible are the very words of God. Setting itself apart from other translations by sacrificing neither accuracy nor readability, the ESV is an "essentially literal" translation that seeks to duplicate the original texts while taking into account the differences between modern English and the original languages.

Relying on the work of more than 50 Bible scholars, as well as the input of a 60-member, multi-denominational Advisory Council, the translation committee chaired by J.I. Packer realized its goals of word-for-word precision and accuracy, literary excellence and readability, and depth of meaning. Written in language beautiful enough to be used for public reading, clear enough for preaching and devotions, and trustworthy enough for academic study, the ESV sets a new standard, and is truly a Bible for all people.

Jesus is the Christ he is God in the flesh he was crucified and then has risen from the dead. There is no other name under heaven that you can be saved but Jesus Christ.

Needed to have the books of the Bible labeled

Need to find another audio Bible that has the books of the Bible listed. This audio only has Chapter numbers listed with no reference to what part of the Bible to which they correlate.

The Holy Bible: New Testament

I have never heard this version before. I enjoyed listening to it and liked the authority in his voice as he reads the Lords words.

Disappointed ...

The reader used a stereotypical "God" voice which sounded angry and self-righteous. I found this to be very distracting and also contrary to the way that Jesus Christ is usually portrayed.

Not segmented by chapters or books; only the NT

It is only the New Testament and doesn’t even allow me to find specific books or chapters— it is in “Chapter 2” and is essentially Matthew 5 and on, which makes no sense unless your purpose in ordering this version is to merely listen and not have a reference of where you heard what was spoken. Biblically, it is good to know where things are written and to meditate on those things so this is definitely not an audio version you’ll want if you desire to study or refer back to passages.

Poorly Organized

What would have made The Holy Bible better?

Unfortunately, the producers have arbitrarily created chapters that have nothing to do with the books and chapters of the New Testament. Therefore, the listener is unable to select particular books (Matthew, Mark, I Corinthians etc.) and listen selectively. I wonder if the producers have ever studied or read the Bible. The New Testament is composed of multiple books and epistles (letters) written by various authors. Most readers(listeners) will want to listen to selected chapters of particular books of the New Testament.

What could Various have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Organize the table of contents to reflect the actual books and chapters of the New Testament like every written version.

What didn’t you like about Marquis Laughlin’s performance?

Good performance.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Will not listen to this version due to the lack of organized table of contents.
